Landing on a superhero role was very different for Dakota Johnson. Still, the actor was roped in to play Cassandra Webb, bringing her character to the big screen. For Johnson, Madame Web was a project that appeared on her plate quite unexpectedly, but despite some hesitation, she joined director S.J. Clarkson in the adventure.
Doing a film greatly differs from watching the same on screen. Several actors have rejected the idea of watching their films on screen. Now, Johnson is seemingly following the same as the actor recently revealed that she hasn’t watched the film yet.
Dakota Johnson Hasn’t Seen Her Latest Film
Surprisingly, Dakota Johnson has not seen her latest movie, Madame Web. The movie under the banner of Sony Pictures Releasing is now showing in theaters, but the reception from the audience and critics is not so favorable. Also, fans don’t have to be sorry for not watching the film as Johnson is yet to witness the movie on the big screen herself.
Speaking to BuzzFeed UK, the Fifty Shades of Grey star revealed that she has no clue what happens in the film. When the interviewer asked if any Madame Web theme song music video was coming out anytime soon, Johnson was seen as slightly confused. She said,
“Is there a theme song? Did you see the movie? I haven’t seen it. You know more about it than me. We’ll see.”
Based on Marvel Comics, S.J. Clarkson’s Sony movie follows a new set of superheroes, but the movie has failed to make a mark. While the movie is still in the race with Kingsley Ben-Adir’s Bob Marley: One Love, it would be interesting to see if the Johnson-starrer superhero flick turns the $80 million production budget into profit.
Dakota Johnson Almost Declined The Madame Web Role
To Johnson’s belief, doing Madame Web was a different experience altogether. She told ExtraTV,
“It’s so exciting and fun. And I feel so proud to be a part of this film and part of a new kind of a superhero film it’s really fun.”
However, the 34-year-old almost refused the role as she was not so sure about appearing in a superhero movie. But the gravity of the narrative surrounding a woman superhero character changed her perspective.
“I never really saw myself in a superhero film. And I, um, I don’t know, I spoke with SJ, the director, a lot about how I could pull it off. And I really wanted to make sure that my character was really grounded and complex and had a real personality. Um and I really at the end of the day, I loved that it was a young woman whose superpower was her mind and that to me was an interesting and inspiring thing.”
Also, Johnson, who previously played roles, depended on the male protagonist (yes, The Fifty Shades franchise), and she was relieved that she doesn’t have a love interest in the movie. “Not relying on superpowers or other men, and there’s no love interest it’s pretty fabulous,” she added.
As the Marvel/Sony movie has failed to create a splash at the box office, it would be critical to assume for a potential sequel, and considering the reception, it is highly unlikely. Sadly, Johnson got to wear the superhero suit for only a limited time, and that would be it if there is no sequel on the cards.
Madame Web is currently showing in theaters.
