Christian Bale Denies Being a Method Actor

Although Christian Bale makes it look effortless, going through a drastic physical transformation is not everybody’s cup of tea. However, he gave incredibly well performances in his movies ranging from American Psycho to The Dark Knight to Ford v Ferrari.

His ability to naturally opt to his characters has led many to believe that, like many other Hollywood stars, Bale might also practice method acting, which contributes to his performance. However, he once denied the claims, saying that he doesn’t even know the concept of method acting.

“You know, people call me that. And I don’t really know what it is,” he said. Although he claims that he doesn’t know or follow the technique, there is no denying that Bale has endured massive changes to give his best on-screen.

Christian Bale Gained 43 Pounds For American Hustle

Christian Bale starred alongside Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, and many others in the 2013 crime drama American Hustle. His character Irving Rosenfeld was based on a 70s con man-turned-FBI agent Melvin Weinberg, and to fit in his character, Bale gained 43 pounds, the most weight he has ever gained for a film.

“I ate lots of doughnuts, a whole lot of cheeseburgers, and whatever I could get my hands on. I literally ate anything that came my way,” he shared. His weight went from 185 pounds to 228 pounds. Not just his weight, but he also shaved his head in order to fit into his character.

However, the 49-year-old actor has shared that with his age, these transformations have started impacting his health and wellness, and he plans to keep it in mind while going through the same process again.
