Taylor Swift’s new album The Tortured Poets Department could become a source of discomfort for The Kardashians star Kim Kardashian. The singer and socialite have navigated a tumultuous relationship, potentially stemming from Kardashian’s ex-husband Kanye West’s 2016 music video for the song FAMOUS.
Swift has been believed to have addressed the drama including West and the SKIMS founder in her previous songs. As anticipation builds for her new album’s release, fans have taken note of a track titled “thanK you aIMee,” interpreting it as a direct reference to Kardashian.
Taylor Swift Allegedly Shades Kim Kardashian in Her New Album
Taylor Swift announced her eleventh studio album The Tortured Poets Department at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards. The album features sixteen songs and two guest appearances by Post Malone and the indie rock band Florence and the Machine.
Soon after the release of the album, a double album edition, titled The Anthology, boasting 15 bonus tracks was released. One of the songs from the bonus tracks has caught fans’ eye, who have come to believe that the song is actually a subtle dig at Kim Kardashian.
The song “thanK you aIMee,” has been believed to be a shot at the socialite, particularly as the capitalization in the title spells ‘KIM,’ Not just the title, people have also dissected the lyrics for references to their feud.
“I don’t think you’ve changed much | And so I changed your name, and any real defining clues | And one day, your kid comes home singin’ | A song that only us two is gonna know is about you.”
Interestingly, Kardashian and her daughter North West previously shared a TikTok dancing to Swift’s hit song Shake It Off. “thanK you aIMee” depicts struggles with a person named Aimee, who inflicted emotional pain.
Swift also acknowledges the healing that resulted from overcoming these challenges and expresses gratitude towards Aimee for inadvertently contributing to her personal journey and growth.
The Years-Long Conflict Between Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian
Taylor Swift initially clashed with Kanye West after the controversial 2009 MTV Video Music Awards incident. Kim Kardashian later entered the fray by defending West’s controversial remarks about Swift in his song FAMOUS.
Despite initially reconciling, tensions resurfaced in 2016 when West’s song referenced Swift in derogatory terms, saying that he “made that bitch famous.” Swift expressed her disapproval at the Grammy Awards, but the socialite claimed Swift was aware of the lyrics beforehand.
The release of a phone call recording by Kardashian further fueled the feud, though it was later revealed to be edited. Swift addressed the conflict in her music video Look What You Made Me Do, but The Kardashians star claimed they were “over it,” which the singer disputed.
“It would be nice if we could get an apology from people who bully us,” she stated in a candid cover story interview with Elle. In her TIME cover story as the 2023 Person of the Year, Swift opened up about how the whole thing impacted her.
“That took me down psychologically to a place I’ve never been before,” she shared, admitting that she moved to a foreign country, lost trust in the people around her, withdrew from most relationships, and spiraled into a deep emotional struggle.
