X-Men ’97 has impressed MCU fans with its rich and layered explorations of the lore created by the 90s X-Men animated series. Some are calling it the best animated entry the MCU has done so far. The series is set to end with the upcoming three-part finale titled Tolerance is Extinction.
Marvel recently dropped the trailer for the final episodes of the series, recapping the events that have happened so far and teasing some events to come. One hilarious scene involving Cable and Cyclops takes a jab at a similar Cyclops scene in 2000’s X-Men, and fans are having a field day with it.
X-Men ’97‘s Latest Trailer Goes Full Circle With a Sarcastic 2000’s X-Men Callback
X-Men ’97 swung for the fences with its 7 episodes up to date, and while there were some criticisms regarding the characterization of Morph and other inconsistencies, most people are very happy with the show’s progress. With the series soon coming to an end with its final three episodes, Marvel has released the trailer for the three-part finale event that will wrap up season 1 of the show.
While the trailer (via YouTube) teased the epic shenanigans that will happen, that is not the main talking point for the fans. The end of the trailer shows Cyclops tossing the blue and yellow X-Men uniform to Cable, with Cable not impressed by it. As he asks whether they are going to war or a circus, Cyclops sarcastically remarks by saying whether he would prefer a black leather uniform instead.
This scene is clearly a snarky clapback at the iconic Cyclops line from 2000’s X-Men where the team wears the black leather uniform. When Wolverine expressed his doubts about the costume, Cyclops asked whether he would prefer a yellow spandex instead (a reference to his classic look in the comics and the X-Men animated series).
Fans were blown away by this full circle moment and believed that Marvel had been planning to make this hilarious callback for a long time. Series creator Beau DeMayo even posted about the reference on X. Here are some of the reactions from fans on X,

The callback is indeed fabulous and also signals how far the X-Men have come over the years. It also shows how the series has impressed fans by maintaining a balance between its epic action. and dramatic moments along with some well-earned-levity in between. The trailer itself is sure to excite fans about the final three episodes.
James Marsden Shot Sonic 3 Near Pinewood Studios Same as Deadpool & Wolverine
The upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine is rumored to have various X-Men cameos from the Fox era. With the film set to be a celebration and sendoff to that era, many actors from that era of X-Men films are expected to reprise their roles. One of the rumored actors to appear in the film is James Marsden as Cyclops. Recently, the actor revealed that he is aware of the chatter around the camos in the film.
While he did not confirm or deny his involvement in Deadpool & Wolverine, he did state that he shot Sonic 3 near Pinewood Studios, where Deadpool & Wolverine was also filming. Marsden was seen nervously chuckling and not speaking further, claiming he may be opening up a pandora’s box. He said on The Playlist podcast,
“I keep hearing about that; I can’t walk down the street without someone asking me. So, evidently, there’s a lot of chatter about that. We just wrapped, actually. We were near the Deadpool stages up there in Pinewood actually. Yeah, this is a little bit of a Pandora’s box.”
The trailers for the film have also not ruined any surprises and cameos. The studio would like to keep it that way until the film is released. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are already the huge selling points of the film, and it is better to keep the cameos hidden from the marketing material.
