It appears Jon Stewart is reversing the clock, as he will continue to serve as a weekly host & executive producer of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show through the US election cycle of 2024. He was the host of the satirical news TV program from 1999 to 2015.
That being said, the news of his return has excited the media to no end. However, not everyone is pleased with his return. TV personality, columnist, and author Meghan McCain recently expressed her disappointment, claiming that Stewart has transformed into a more politically biased and “woke” figure. In her eyes, the comedian had changed from the person she “grew up loving”.
Additionally, she stated that she was his fan when he first gained popularity but she lost interest in him when he started disparaging conservative political voices.

Jon Stewart’s Return to The Daily Show—Only on Mondays
The new host of The Daily Show has finally been announced, and he may look familiar to you.
According to EW, Jon Stewart—the face of the late-night talk show from 1999 to 2015—will be hosting Monday nights during the 2024 election cycle. For the rest of the week, a group of correspondents will rotate as hosts for the Comedy Central program. That probably means that Dulcé Sloan, Michael Kosta, Ronny Chieng, Desi Lydic, and Jordan Klepper will be on the current roster.
Also, Stewart, who managed the show for sixteen years, has been brought in to executive produce every episode of The Daily Show for the duration of the next election cycle and beyond.
Stewart made his own announcement on X, the former Twitter, on January 24, following the news of his return. He wrote,
Friends. After much reflection I have decided to enter the transfer portal for my last year of eligibility. Excited for the future!

But Meghan McCain, a political analyst and former The View co-host, is taking Jon Stewart’s big comeback to The Daily Show with a grain of salt.

The Return of ‘Woke’ Jon Stewart Worries Meghan McCain?
The announcement that Jon Stewart will be taking over as host of The Daily Show has drawn the attention of Meghan McCain. The former co-host of The View has admitted in an episode of her podcast, Meghan McCain Has Entered the Chat, that she was a fan of Stewart when he first took over as host of The Daily Show, but she lost interest when (via Entertainment Weekly):
“He became more critical of conservative voices in politics.”
She also voiced her concerns regarding the version of Stewart that will be working at the desk this time around. McCain added:
“I was horrified at the sort of creature he has morphed into. I found him to be the most woke, I didn’t recognize the Jon that I grew up loving.”

Given his impressive resume—he has won two Grammy Awards and 22 Primetime Emmy Awards, among other honors—McCain’s reasons seem utterly baseless. Apart from his tenure on The Daily Show, he has directed two feature films: Rosewater (2014) and Irresistible (2020). Additionally, he served as host of The Problem With Jon Stewart for two seasons (2021–2023).
Regardless of McCain’s concerns, Stewart’s willingness to use comedy genius as a means to question the status quo should be celebrated.
