The one that can be thought of immediately was Al Pacino when he was announcing the winner of the Best Picture category. The moment was criticized quite a lot online. So much so that Kimmel commented on it after the festivities were over.

Al Pacino’s Presenting Skills Questioned

Al Pacino is one of the most respected and talented actors of all time. Considering he has created the foundations of what is known as Hollywood now, it is no surprise that he was asked to present the Oscar for one of the most significant awards of the night; Best Picture.

There were several strong contenders in the mix, and the entire audience has been holding onto their hearts ever since they entered the hall, wondering who was going to win.

When Pacino walked onto the stage, many could not help but notice how he failed to create much anticipation around the announcement. When he did reveal who had won, Oppenheimer, it was as though the words accidentally slipped out of his mouth, having said them when no change in his tone.

“Ten wonderful films were nominated, but only one will take the award for Best Picture — and I have to go to the envelope for that,” said Pacino. “My eyes see ‘Oppenheimer!‘ “

Some were quick to say that there was nothing wrong with how he presented because he was Al Pacino. To this, many added that his status does not give him the right to ruin such a significant moment in the lives of so many people in that crowd.

It is safe to say that Al Pacino’s announcement of Oppenheimer winning Best Picture has polarized the internet. Jimmy Kimmel, who hosted the ceremony, also ended up commenting on this, via Variety. The talk show host and comedian joked that from the way that Pacino announced the winner, it seemed as though he had never been at an award show before.

“I guess he’s never watched an awards show before,” Kimmel said. “It seems like everyone in America knows the rhythm of how it’s supposed to go…down to the ‘And the Oscar goes to…’ But not Al Pacino! God bless him.”

The reality, of course, is quite the contrary, with the actor having been nominated for an Academy Award nine times and winning the same once. Kimmel added that anyone who has ever heard of an award show is aware of how announcing the winners goes. However, he finished by joking that it seems almost iconic for Pacino to do such a thing
