Adria Arjona’s career has seen a big upswing in recent years since she entered the Star Wars universe in Andor. The actress played Bix Caleen, a badass mechanic and a trustworthy ally of Cassian Andor. Landing such a big role in the franchise was no joke and the actress impressed everyone with her performance.
Arjona being in Star Wars was a huge thing for the Latin community as they had never seen people like them being represented in the celebrated franchise. The actress had a surprisingly emotional experience with a fan (a Latina woman) dressed as Bix at the premiere of the show. It is one that she will always be grateful for. She recalled the heartwarming encounter in an interview with Variety.
Arjona stated that the woman started crying and thanked her for representing people like them in one of her favorite franchises on-screen. The actress is happy to make her stamp on the franchise and and be a powerful female character in general in the Star Wars franchise through Andor. She said,
I get to the premiere and thereās this wonderful, beautiful Latin woman in my costume. She had maybe 24 hours to create this costume. She started crying. Sheās like, ‘Iām the biggest Star Wars fan, but I had never seen a woman like myself in Star Wars.ā
I started crying. Thatās had always been a dream of mine to be in Star Wars, to be in that universe and to represent and not in a gimmicky way. I am not a Latin woman in āStar Wars.ā Iām just a woman in Star Wars.
The actress had no idea that her role would create that huge of an impact with fans and by receiving such accolades, she realized that representation matters and it can make many people happy and contented. Arjona is set to return as Bix in Andor season 2 which is expected to premiere sometime next year.
Adria Arjona and Glen Powell Instantly Clicked When They First Met For Hit Man
Adria Arjona is currently starring in the romantic action comedy Hit Man, opposite Glen Powell. The film directed by Richard Linklater, sees Powell playing a fake hitman who starts to fall for the woman he is supposed to help played by Arjona. The film required both the actors to have great chemistry on-screen and the duo didn’t have to work hard to achieve that.
In an interview with Empire, Arjona revealed that meeting and speaking with Powell on their first meeting for the film felt so spontaneous and easy that they ended up talking for five hours. She trusted Powell and they created a sweet space where they could play and try out different things with their characters. Arjona said,
It was supposed to be a one-hour meeting. We ended up talking for five hours. Chemistry comes from trust, and I think from our first meeting I just knew I could trust [Glen]. We created a space for us to play and be weird and sexy and funny.
Hit Man has received rave reviews from critics, and it currently has a rare 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, Those who have seen it are raving about the performance of both Arjona and Powell and their sizzling chemistry. The film will be released on Netflix on June 7, 2024.
