Emily Blunt ranks as one of the most prolific actresses in Hollywood with numerous films and TV series under her belt, including the iconic The Devil Wears Prada, A Quiet Place, and Oppenheimer. She also appeared in several British projects, and one in particular won her a Golden Globe.
As one of Forbes’ highest-paid actresses in the world, Blunt started her career at the West End theater. She starred in the 2001 stage production The Royal Family with Judi Dench and later made her 2003 miniseries Henry VIII.
Emily Blunt Forgot To Prepare Her Speech For Golden Globes
In accepting her Golden Globe award in 2007 for her performance in the British miniseries Gideon’s Daughter, actress Emily Blunt stated (via YouTube):
“Thank you very much for this. This was a film very close to my heart, and it was a film for anyone who’s ever had a child and anyone who’s ever had a parent so it was just incredibly moving.”
She later mentioned and thanked her co-stars Bill Nighy and Miranda Richardson, as well as the director, Stephen Poliakoff. After she finished her speech, Blunt left the stage. The actress admitted she did not prepare for that moment, perhaps not expecting she would bag the award.
Amid her hasty acceptance speech, she did note something that caught her attention. Blunt said she spotted Batman actor Jack Nicholson looking at her while she stood on the platform. She admitted (via IMDb):
“The Globes night was a frenzy: I hadn’t written anything. I looked down at the audience, and Jack Nicholson was staring up at me, and I couldn’t even remember what my bloody name was. So I have learnt my lesson!”
Indeed, anyone would feel shocked if they spotted the legendary actor staring at them in admiration while they savor their momentous win at the event.
Emily Blunt Revealed Bill Nighy Made Her Cringe
In her acceptance speech, Emily Blunt mentioned that her co-star in Gideon’s Daughter, Bill Nighy, used to do things that made her cringe. In an interview with several reporters, she explained her statement (via YouTube):
“Only ‘cause he was playing my dad, so he’d go out of his way to do dad-like things to make me cringe, and he’s hilarious. He’d make kind of dad comments, but it’s just an ongoing joke between us that he would try and embarrass me at any given opportunity which he did very well.”
As Blunt said, she has learned her lesson and that she should prepare her speech ahead of time to avoid causing confusion.
