When it comes to actresses doing stunts and action sequences in major Hollywood films, the first names that come to mind might be stars like Charlize Theron and Angelina Jolie. But there’s another contender in the race of action stars in the industry, and it’s none other than Emily Blunt with some amazing action performances of her own in the business.

While she may not be as popular for bringing action into her performances as some other mainstream action actresses, she can hold herself just fine. In fact, when shooting for a critically acclaimed film in the past, she came face to face with Jon Bernthal for the rolling camera, although it wasn’t an easy feat to achieve.

When talks about intensity-building action and fight sequences come up, oftentimes the images of certain stars from the film industry might pop into someone’s head. While many of them are well-versed in their art to bring some heat into those scenes, Emily Blunt may not be the one who people will assume to do something like that. But contrary to popular belief, she can handle herself just as well as the others in these shots, made clear by her performance in Edge of Tomorrow. But according to her, there was another film that was just as demanding and taxing.

In a past interview with The Guardian, the Jungle Cruise star was talking about how action-packed her role as a female special agent in Denis Villeneuve’s 2015 film Sicario was. She revealed that while she was prepared for some action, what she didn’t expect was just how crazy it was all going to become. She continued, saying that her fight scene with The Punisher star Jon Bernthal was especially hard, so much so that by the end of that scene’s shoot, she was badly battered and taxed. She said:

“In Sicario, I was not so much the deep edge of action that I was in Edge of Tomorrow. But it was intense at times. That fight scene with Jon Bernthal was really intense. It was hard on all of us, I think. All of us were sore at the end of Sicario.”

Therefore, the actress proved that she’s not a lightweight when it comes to shooting intense action sequences with stars as seasoned in this as Bernthal himself.

A film written by screenwriter Taylor Sheridan and directed by Denis Villeneuve, Sicario tells the tale of a young female FBI Special Agent Kate Macer. Along with her on-duty partner Reggie Wayne, she prepares to raid a safe house run by the infamous Sonora Drug Cartel on the border of the USA and Mexico.

Here, during their investigative raid, it’s found that the safe house was a set-up all along, and before she can do anything, two on-duty officers get caught in a blast set up by the cartel. Seeing her involvement in this, she’s recruited into a Joint Task Force with the CIA to hunt down the kingpin that runs the business.
