The Crow, the forthcoming movie directed by Rupert Sanders, has been the talk of the town since its announcement in 2022. The action-thriller is a reimagining of the same-titled 1994 Alex Proyas film, featuring Brandon Lee in the lead role. With its top-notch cast and storytelling, the $94 million movie was a huge box-office success and struck a chord with the audience. Now the official trailer for Bill Skarsgård’s upcoming flick has further piqued the viewer’s interest.
However, some of the most disturbing information regarding the movie—which will hit theaters on June 7—has just recently come to light. In just one day, the trailer garnered a whopping 53,000 dislikes on YouTube, in contrast to just 42,000 likes. These figures put a serious damper on the movie’s potential to do well at the box office.
Unfavorable YouTube Metrics For The Crow Remake Trailer
The highly anticipated remake of The Crow (1994) hit a major stumbling block after the trailer was released on YouTube and received a staggering 53,000 dislikes in a single day (via X). The overwhelmingly negative response has cast doubt on the project’s direction among critics and fans alike, raising concerns about the potential of the film’s success.
Due to its gritty and dark tone, as well as Brandon Lee’s legendary performance in the title role, the original The Crow film has grown into a cult favorite. With a $23 million budget and a $94 million box office haul, the 1994 hit movie earned favorable reviews from critics. The 2022 announcement of a remake caused excitement and apprehension among fans, causing some to wonder if the 2024 flick could live up to the legacy of the original.
As seen in the most recent trailer, Eric rises from the grave to exact his vicious vengeance. He is back to life, enhanced by superhuman abilities that allow him to survive stabbings, shotgun blasts, and gunfire.
But the way the trailer for Bill Skarsgård and FKA Twigs’ flick has been received on YouTube has led to questions about how good the remake will be. The dislikes outnumbering the likes by such a large margin is an obvious indication that something is amiss.
Whether it’s the casting choices, the visual style, or the general tone of the film, there’s something that clearly didn’t resonate with viewers.
Fans React To The Crow Trailer’s Polarizing Reception
After almost sixteen years of development, The Crow is now prepared to exact revenge once again. Over the years, a number of actors, including Tom Hiddleston, Luke Evans, Jason Momoa, and Bradley Cooper, were in talks to play the lead. Now, Bill Skarsgård and FKA Twigs are starring in the movie, which is being helmed by Rupert Sanders.
But, given the polarizing reaction to the trailer, it is understandable that there is skepticism about this new version of The Crow. Some fans are concerned about Skarsgård’s portrayal of the iconic character, while others worry that the film will fail to capture the magic of the original.
Let us hear what fans have to say via X:
I honestly don't think the actual trailer looked bad. But my god his character design..

Meh. people will still watch.
No one wants anyone else playing this character besides brandon, they wouldve accepted Jason Mamoa.
So i’m convinced it’s a Long Hair thing.
but the other part of me agrees, the original is too good and classic to be remade.
Still gonna see this…

It was very disappointing don’t like the direction they took with the movie. Feels like a bad 90s action movie.

Doesn’t look amazing but I don’t get why so many expect it to look like Brandon Lee’s when it’s not that same story

People are so boring today they need to dislike everything to get attention.

Trailer looked ok, the costume design for the titular hero is lacking tho. I know the long haired goth aestethic has kinda been done to death but when people think of the Crow they think of long hair, white face paint with black accents and goth stylings

What does this all mean for the film’s potential at the box office, then? Well, the numbers do not lie. The trailer has more dislikes than likes, indicating a high level of suspicion and negativity surrounding this remake. It will be interesting to see if the film can overcome these challenges and appeal to fans of the original.
Meanwhile, let us cross our fingers and hope that The Crow remake delivers a memorable and successful film that lives up to the beloved original.
The Crow will make its theatrical debut on June 7, 2024.
