Why did Harrison Ford’s Jack Ryan director refuse to watch John Krasinski’s version?

The Han Solo actor played the Tom Clancy-created character for two movies- Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger. Although Clancy was skeptical at first when Alec Baldwin’s Jack Ryan from The Hunt for Red October was replaced with Harrison Ford, he later appreciated Patriot Games. It turned out to be a huge hit and established Ryan as a fan-favorite character.

According to the director of those movies Phillip Noyce, he was attached to the character for a personal reason of his father’s past as a secret army intelligence officer. When asked by Screen Rant if he had seen Krasinski’s take on the character, he replied nobody could be Jack Ryan to him other than Ford.

“No, I didn’t. I just couldn’t. Because, for me, Harrison Ford is Jack Ryan, and no one else could be Jack Ryan. I invested so much in that collaboration, it pulled me in, because my dad worked in intelligence, in army intelligence, in the Second World War.”

Noyce grew up with the stories from the Second World War and did the Harrison Ford films due to his personal inclination. But he didn’t watch more than trailers of the latest John Krasinski version. Although several fans of the character have noticed that the latest take on the character was similar to Ford’s instead of the forgettable iterations we got to see in Ben Affleck and Chris Pine’s movies.

When it was announced that Alec Baldwin would not return as Jack Ryan after The Hunt for Red October, many were skeptical that Harrison Ford might look too old. However, his version was a huge hit and was etched in everyone’s mind. Following Ford, The Office actor became most successful in the role.

John Krasinski played the role for four successful seasons of the Amazon Prime Video series. The series garnered amazing responses and garnered several new fans for the character. Sadly, the series has ended its run after four reasons and doesn’t look forward to returning soon. Speaking to The Wrap, the A Quiet Place director admitted that they wanted the series to end on a high note.

“We wanted to keep the action and thrills and all that for the audience, but I think most importantly to me was – if we were going to end it – to make sure that the audience also had a culmination of these characters and these relationships that they connected to, and that they felt that they were saying goodbye as well.”

John Krasinski didn’t want the series to turn exhausting and aimed to conclude it with a positive image. However, it is reported that Amazon is expanding the Ryanverse with a series focused on Michael Peña’s character Ding Chavez reportedly under development.

Harrison Ford’s Jack Ryan games can be streamed on Max.
