Spider-Man: No Way Home was truly a spectacle. The movie quickly became the sixth highest-grossing movie ever and gave us some of the most iconic scenes in television history. From bringing back our favorite villains from the past to bringing us the heroes we grew up with to fight them, this movie was simply fan-service.
So it is no surprise that these big reveals were kept secret from the public until the release of the film. Tom Holland is well known for letting spoilers slip, having done this in the past with previous Marvel projects. However, he ended up not letting anything slip about the movie and was determined not to spoil anything.
What Did Tom Holland Actually Tell the Press About Spider-Man: No Way Home?
Leading up to the release of the movie, it was revealed that Green Goblin, The Lizard, Electro, Doctor Ocktavis, and Sandman, who have all been villains in previous Spider-Man franchises, would be in this movie as its main villains. Due to this, speculation started as to whether or not the previous Spider-Men, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, make an appearance alongside Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.
When asked about Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, Holland joked, saying “Who are they?”
When asked this in interviews, Holland was adamant that this was not the case. He, along with Garfield, who was also doing press at the time for his movie Tick, Tick… Boom!, kept going on and on that Maguire and Garfield were not in the movie, dodging questions left and right. After the movie was released, was confirmed that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were, in fact, in the movie.
How Did Tom Holland Feel After Lying So Much for Spider-Man: No Way Home?
After the movie was released, was confirmed that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were, in fact, in the movie. The movie did exceptionally well and fans laughed at the lies Holland and Garfield told but apparently, they troubled Holland quite a bit. While doing press for his movie Uncharted, which was to come quite soon after Spider-Man: No Way Home, he revealed this during an interview with Seth Meyers.
“I am a very honest person just by nature, which has got me into trouble in the past,” Holland said. “I’m just very honest. So on the press tour, you know, journalists are like, ‘So are Tobey and Andrew in this movie?’ I’m like, ‘No, they’re not. Stop asking me that.’ And I go home, and I almost can’t sleep because I feel so bad for lying all the time. I’m like calling up my mom like, ‘I just feel so guilty for all the lies.’”
Tom Holland was quite troubled by the constant lying and would confide in his mother about how much this was making him feel guilty. To this, Meyers joked about how he doesn’t feel sorry about this. In the end, Holland is happy with the way the movie turned out as it was a massive success.
