Both Ackles and Padalecki were the faces of the show, but the former drew crowds, and the show creators knew it. Therefore, when Ackles had to be punched in a particular scene, the actor opposite him was nervous. Ackles, however, was able to immediately put him at ease with a classy response.

Jensen Ackles has become one of the most well-known television actors around at present. However, it was his role as Dean Winchester on Supernatural that thrust him into the spotlight.

Ackles was always game for all the action that the show creator, Eric Kripke, wrote for his character. Kripke himself got to use his creative abilities to the fullest since the network had given him free rein. He utilized it well in the fourth season of the show, when he was inspired by The X-Files to film an episode in black and white.

Titled Monster Movie, the episode saw the Winchester brothers come face-to-face with a shapeshifter, who replicated his murders based on old classics. One of the forms that the antagonist took was that of Dracula, the legendary vampire.

During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ackles and Todd Stashwick, the Dracula actor, opened up about filming together. They spoke about one scene in particular, where Dean confronts the murderer, with the visage of Dracula. Stashwick recalled how horrified he was after he punched Ackles.

“I’m in full crazy mode and I’m supposed to clock Jensen in his beautiful face with my elbow, and for whatever reason in that moment — I perhaps leaned in, he perhaps leaned in — we closed that gap and I clocked him. So what you see on the DVD extras is me being all Dracula and then me being mortified that I just hit their billion dollar baby in the face,” said Stashwick.

The older Winchester brother actor did everything he could to mollify Stashwick, though. He joked that the punch woke him up. Given the popularity of these characters, fans have been looking for more.

When Jensen Ackles’ Dean Winchester had to confront Dracula

The Winchesters were at the Oktoberfest in Pennsylvania to investigate a string of murders. One of the victims had incision marks left on her neck, indicating she was bitten. However, her body was still intact, suggesting that the killer was not really a vampire.

In true Dean style, he catches the eye of Jamie, a local waitress. However, the hunt for the murderer makes Dean late for his date with Jamie, before he runs into the infamous vampire himself. Naturally, Winchester punched him before the murderer escaped on a Vespa.

Not long after having spiked drinks with Jamie, Dean finds himself strapped to a table while wearing a lederhosen. The scene had bits of comedy in it too, like Dracula leaving Dean to answer the bell as he had ordered a pizza. He even takes it up a notch by asking the delivery boy if the pizza has garlic on it.

Stashwick prepared well for his scenes as the legendary vampire. He followed Bela Lugosi’s performance minutely on his DVD, and he nailed the actor’s mannerisms.

In the end, the Winchester brothers won and banished the shape-shifter. Monster Movie remains one of the best episodes of Supernatural, with an IMDb rating of 8.4.
