Anne Hathaway Gives Back to Those Critics Who Previously Said She Had No S*X Appeal 

In 2001, Anne Hathaway made her cinematic breakthrough with The Princess Diaries. But just when she began her career, some Hollywood pundits said that the actress lacked s*x appeal. Now, in an interview with Vanity Fair, she shot back at those critics, saying that she is a scorpion. 

I was like, ‘I’m a Scorpio,’ ” Hathaway, 41, said. “I know what I’m like on a Saturday night.

She pointed out that during her teenage years, she was unsure of what the definition of s*xiness was. The cultural definition of s*xy was very narrow at that time compared to today’s Hollywood. 

The male gaze was very dominant and very pervasive and very juvenile,” Hathaway said.

A lot of people wouldn’t give me roles because they were so concerned about how toxic my identity had become online,” she said.

Hathaway is recently seen in The Idea of You, which is based on the bestselling novel of the same name from Robinne Lee. The film focuses on the romance between 40-year-old Solène (Anne Hathaway) and the 24-year-old lead singer of the world’s hottest boy band (played in the film by Nicholas Galitzine).

Around that time, she got to work in Christopher Nolan’s 2014 sci-fi film Interstellar. Prior to that, she played Catwoman in Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises in 2012.

I had an angel in Christopher Nolan, who did not care about that and gave me one of the most beautiful roles I’ve had in one of the best films that I’ve been a part of,” Hathaway told Vanity Fair. “I don’t know if he knew that he was backing me at the time, but it had that effect.”

She added, “And my career did not lose momentum the way it could have if he hadn’t backed me.”

Hathaway went on to star in several commercially successful films, including the comedy Get Smart (2008), Valentine’s Day (2010), Love & Other Drugs (2010), and the fantasy film Alice in Wonderland (2010).
