Unfortunately, it floundered in development limbo for over a decade and eventually got canceled in 2019. Following the news of a new Sims adaptation from Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider, reliable Hollywood-focussed news outlet THR verified the legitimacy of the report. While Sneider’s newsletter consisted of scant details, the media outlet offered proper reports and even revealed the partnership of the project.
According to THR, The Sims movie will be directed by Kate Herron, who previously helmed the first season of Loki. Further, Margot Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap, is said to have teamed up with Herron to produce the film adaptation. Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment, alongside The Sims publisher Electronic Arts, will also be involved in production.
The upcoming adaptation is being described as a hot package, with multiple studios and streamers, waiting to land the project. As of now, the film is in early development; cast members and plot details are thus yet to be revealed. Meanwhile, since the unorthodox approach to adapting Barbie turned out to be an excellent strategy, it is speculated that Margot Robbie might add similar magic to this movie.
