While the One Piece manga and anime were something quite spectacular indeed, its live-action version just took everything to a whole new level. With incredible sets that can blow the audience’s minds away, it has set the bar even higher for other live-action adaptations. But out of all the mind-blowing sets, Iñaki Godoy’s favorite is something else entirely.

As surprising as it may be, Godoy’s favorite set is not the striking Baratie set or the glorious Conomi Islands, which are ranked among the top five most epic sets made for One Piece. Instead, he chose the Going Merry ship as his favorite, and the reason behind it is pretty understandable.

Considering all the amazing set pieces that the One Piece cast got to shoot on, there were some pretty incredible places that Iñaki Godoy could have chosen when asked about his favorite set piece in the live-action during an interview with Collider. However, the Monkey D. Luffy portrayer’s answer was entirely different than expected. He said:

“All the sets are amazing. I mean, I got to go with the Going Merry. I think every set is amazing, but the Going Merry, specifically, just has so much emotion in it. So, if there is one piece of set that I really want people to see, it’s going to be the Going Merry!”

Continuing, he shared another set that was his favorite in the series.

“Oh, also, actually, there is one other set that I really loved. Luffy’s first boat! Yes, his first boat ever. That is also special.”

Adding to his comment, co-star Emily Rudd then shared how much emotion the Going Merry ship holds for them.

“I mean, obviously, the Merry is extremely special. That was something that, I think, for all of us seeing it in person for the first time, stepping foot on it was a dream, you know?”

Turns out that not only does the cast perfectly resonate with their One Piece characters but they also think like them, which is truly incredible.

Iñaki Godoy Feels He Has ‘A Lot Of Luffy’ Inside Of Him

The interviewer from Collider then went on to ask Iñaki Godoy if his character, Monkey D. Luffy, is very different from him or if he feels his energy flowing through him all the time. To this, the other cast members Taz Skylar, Jacob Romero Gibson, and Mackenyu immediately admitted how Godoy was the Luffy of the real world before Iñaki Godoy said:

“I think I do have a lot of Luffy inside me. I’ve always been a very energetic person, that’s for sure. I love to celebrate, I love to eat. I do feel like him in a lot of ways.”

He then went on to mention how he can learn a lot from his One Piece character as well.

“I also feel like I can learn a lot from him. Unlike Luffy, sometimes I do second-guess myself, and I do have insecurities. I think when I play Luffy, I feel inspired to be stronger and be more brave. So there is a lot that I share with Luffy, and there’s also a lot that I can learn from him, too.”

Judging from all their down-to-earth responses that perfectly resonate with what their characters would have said, if anything, the One Piece live-action cast is worth falling in love with as much as their on-screen characters!
