Dwayne Johnson and John Cena have been good friends. Even though they did hit a little rough patch in their years of friendship, they remain close till now. However, even though they might be friends now, there was a time when The Rock suffered his most painful injury ever at the hands of the Peacemaker star.

Dwayne Johnson was recently on The Pat McAfee Show to talk about his life, wrestling, and movies. When discussing WrestleMania and wrestling, the inevitable question of his most memorable match or moment inside the ring came up. While Johnson mentioned how his first one would always remain memorable, it was the last one he headlined with John Cena that sticks out in his memory the most.

And the reason it sticks out isn’t because it was great or that he won (which he did not), it was because he suffered a terrible injury that till now nobody knew about.

Talking about it, Johnson stated on The Pat McAfee Show,

“About 10 minutes into this match I take a rock bottom which is my finisher… I go up extra high… I over rotate he drives me down into the mat and I feel this. And I don’t know what it is yeah and I’m laying there’s 85,000 people in New York and I’m like damn what just happened I thought a bone came through my skin.”

While there was no broken bone, he did start to feel numb from the waist down. Injured and unable to even walk he continued. And then tragedy struck again at the end of the match,

“He gives me his big slam which is you know… about 10 feet up in the air… As soon as I land bang again, I feel my just up all upper body go… Completely tearing my abdomen in three places. So I had to have emergency hernia surgery, three. But then what happened down here.., 10 minutes into the match was I tore the top of my quad and my adductor from my pelvis.”
While it must have been painful as hell, Johnson went ahead and shot his movie Hercules, injured.

Dwayne Johnson’s 2014 movie Hercules was an action-filled adventure featuring The Rock in many thrilling action and stunt sequences. But it is surprising that he even managed to film the movie. On The Pat McAfee Show, the star stated,

“I did triple hernia surgery emergency surgery but the tearing the quad off my pelvis I had to go shoot Hercules. So I actually shot that movie hurt. I didn’t do surgery so everything kind of just scarred tissued up.”

While it is one thing being injured, it is another thing shooting an action movie while being injured. It is Johnson’s commitment and dedication that has made him as big a star as he is now.

Hercules can be streamed on Amazon Prime.
