Kevin Costner and the Yellowstone drama has been going on for over a year now. Despite Costner being the draw of the hit series and a valuable part of the cast, he has apparently been at a fallout with the series creator, Taylor Sheridan. After his abrupt exit from the series last year, it was made known that season five of the Western drama would be the last.
Although Costner and Sheridan have spoken a bit of times about the drama between them, Costner recently made some remarks about the show’s future. And his comments might make fans hate Sheridan.
Kevin Costner on His Future in Yellowstone
Ever since Yellowstone first premiered, Kevin Costner has been making headlines for his impressive portrayal of John Dutton. Not only does the actor stand out in his role as Dutton but his portrayal further proves why the actor is such an integral part of the Western genre’s legacy in Hollywood.
However, after reports of alleged scheduling conflicts and more between series creator Taylor Sheridan and the Oscar-winning actor-director (via Puck News), it was revealed that Costner will not be returning following the end of season 5 of Yellowstone (via Entertainment Tonight).
Yet in a new interview with ET, Costner made some new remarks about his future in the hit Paramount Network series and stated,
“I’d like to be able to do it but we haven’t been able to…I thought I was going to make seven [seasons] but right now we’re at five. So how it works out — I hope it does — but they’ve got a lot of different shows going on. Maybe it will. Maybe this will circle back to me. If it does and I feel really comfortable with [it], I’d love to do it.”
Back in January 2023, Yellowstone star Cole Hauser had stated to ET that there would be at least two more seasons. But in May 2023, following the tensions on the set, it was reported by ET that the show would officially end after season 5.
Following Costner’s recent remarks, fans are sure to get upset with Sheridan for ending the series with season 5.
Details About Yellowstone Season 5’s Final Episodes
After the Hollywood strikes and drama between the showrunner and lead actor, Yellowstone’s final episodes are set to begin production soon, ending the drama for good. While its many spin-offs are already in the works and airing, it is Yellowstone that fans have grown to love the most.
The stakes are pretty high for the series since the mid-season finale ended with everything looking ambiguous and ominous for the Dutton family. While nothing much has been revealed about the series’ final episodes and how many episodes will be in there, the production might be starting soon (see The Hollywood Reporter).
Meanwhile, Costner remarked to ET that his character should be more proactive in how the story plays out. While we await further details regarding the show, we hope Costner might someday return to the Yellowstone universe.
Yellowstone can be streamed on Peacock.
