The actor, who rose to fame for his role in HBO’s Euphoria, admitted he threw up off-camera due to the physically disgusting production of the horror mystery project. The intensity was beyond his control, so it ended up giving Gage a quick stomach turn.

Lukas Gage Warned Fans How Gruesome Smile 2 Will Be

In his guesting over The Jess Cagle Show via SiriusXM, actor Lukas Gage described his not-so-good experience on the set of Parker Finn’s Smile 2, which, according to him, was a total appetite wrecker.

I’m so scared to give any spoilers away. I just — if you love the first movie, you’re gonna love this one. It’s so terrifying. It was the first time I’ve ever been on a set where I was genuinely afraid, and I actually got sick to my stomach in one take. I didn’t think I would. I just, it was so gory and so disgusting.”

When asked if he threw up on set, he admitted, “I vomited off-camera!” then quipped, “I said roll the camera, don’t cut, come to the bathroom with me.”

He praised Finn for his flair in helming the psychological supernatural film, then revealed that even the crew were scared to death while working.

It’s legitimately that scary I’m not even just lying. I’ve never been on something that truly terrified me. The crew is terrified filming because — I don’t know, [filmmaker] Parker Finn is, he knows that genre so well.”

In another conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Gage echoed the same sentiment but further added that he felt very cowardly at the time.

I was really shocked how intense it is on the day. You just think, ‘Oh, it’s acting, it’s gonna be fine,’ but that movie is so scary. The whole crew was terrified. That smile itself is just so creepy, and then you throw the most gory scenes on top of it, I just, yeah, I have a weak stomach too. I’m a wimp.”

He did not share much about his role, but Gage expressed how excited he is to work on a horror movie.

What To Expect In The Smile Sequel

Details about the upcoming sequel are still kept under wraps, though director Parker Finn previously teased in an interview with ComicBook that he will not rehash the same story.

For me, as a filmmaker, I never want to retread and just do something I’ve already done again the exact same way. In a universe where there could be any potential – more story to tell from Smile, I’d wanna make sure it was surprising and different and not what people were expecting after the first one.”

With Gage’s intriguing comment about the second installment, it surely will have the viewers look forward to its theatrical release on October 18, 2024.
