Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to premiere on December 20, 2023. This movie marks the last DCEU film before James Gunn and Peter Safran reboot the universe in 2025. Conversations have already started about what this film might look like, and one particular talk involves Amber Heard’s involvement in the film.
The actress will be reprising her role as Mera (the former Queen of Dimension Aqua, Queen of Atlantis, and wife of DC Comics superhero Aquaman) amid her highly publicized legal battles with ex-Johnny Depp.
Although she had a big part in the 2018 Aquaman, the upcoming film will only feature her in a few instances. But recently, a source revealed that the intervention of billionaire Elon Musk played a huge role in retaining the actress.
Amber Heard Secured the Role of Mera Because of Elon Musk’s Intervention
Amber Heard‘s role in Aquaman surprised many executives in the industry, as some considered that she was “never a good actress.” According to a 2022 report by The Pop Topic, Hollywood’s elite insiders and sources shared:
“A lot of us were actually pretty shocked when we found out that Amber Heard had been cast as Mera in the Aquaman movies — not because of the Johnny Depp situation but because she’s not a great actress. I would hesitate to even call her b-list.”
The source continued by saying that she secured this role because of Elon Musk:
“A lot of us are starting to wonder whether she slept with James Wan and that’s how she secured this role, especially after seeing in an intimate setting with him and Elon Musk. We know what kind of wild things the two of them got up to.”
Even a Variety report suggests that Musk threatened to take drastic action against the studio if Heard was fired from her role.
Elon Musk Threatened WB to Save Amber Heard’s Role in Aquaman
An inside source revealed (via Variety) that Musk’s lawyer sent a “scorched-earth letter” to Warner Bros, threatening serious consequences if they didn’t bring back Heard. The attorney reportedly threatened “to burn the house down” if the studio decided to drop her.
Warner Bros. decided to bring back Heard, but reports suggest they kept her involvement to a minimum. According to Variety, the London Fields actress mentioned in a note that “Jason said he wanted me fired,” she even went on to say that the actor even dressed like her ex-husband on set.
Heard claimed in another document that she felt unsupported by the film’s director, James Wan, and was treated as a “pariah” because of her legal battle with Depp.
