In the late 2000s Ryan Reynolds and Black Widow star Scarlett Johansson were lovebirds and they got married in 2008. While their marriage didn’t last long (they divorced in 2011), they were one of the most talked about celebrity couples at the time and many other celebs talked highly of their relationship.

One of them was Blake Lively, who starred with Reynolds in 2011’s Green Lantern and would later become Reynolds’ current wife. In 2010, Lively who plays Carol Ferris, talked to MTV News about being in Green Lantern and joked about how beating Reynolds up would be her best day on set. Lively also had the perfect person in mind to teach her how to be the perfect action star.

Lively expressed her admiration for Johannsson’s Black Widow and how she would also beat Reynolds to a pulp. She felt that Johansson should teach her some cool moves so that she could stand on her own alongside Reynolds in Green Lantern. The actress said,

Oh my gosh! I would love to, to get to beat [Ryan Reynolds] up! Best day ever! Oh, I think she would beat him up too! She’s Black Widow! She was terrific! She’s got to teach me how to fight!

While Lively and Reynolds’ chemistry in Green Lantern was praised, the film itself was a disaster and flopped at the box office (grossing only $220 million against a $200 million budget (via Box Office Mojo). But the film proved to be significant in both their lives as they became lovebirds and are now happily married.

Emma Corrin is making their MCU debut in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine as Cassandra Nova. While details about Cassandra’s arc in the film are still kept under wraps, Ryan Reynolds had high praise for Corrin and their contribution to the film. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the Deadpool star expressed his admiration for Corrin’s energy which he compares to the likes of Gene Wilder.

Reynolds further sang praises about Corrin’s ability to humanize Cassandra Nova and understanding her motivations as a character. The actor’s brilliant performance gave a layered character filled with mischief, danger, and unpredictability. Reynolds said,

Emma brought a Gene Wilder energy to Deadpool & Wolverine. Mischief, danger, unpredictability—from their first scene onward, we understand the villain enough to know why she’s motivated to oppose our heroes. And that’s because Emma is so fucking excellent at humanizing even the most chaotic lines.

Corrin is expected to have a huge standout arc as Cassandra Nova in the film and as teased in the trailers, theirs is not a character to be messed with. The film also stars Hugh Jackman, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, and Matthew Macfadyen.
