It’s been more than 30 years since Sharon Stone and William Baldwin starred together in the 1993 flop Sliver. But recent revelations and controversies surrounding the movie reeks of unhappy moments and alleged pressure that Stone had to face while filming. According to reports, while the erotic thriller failed due to lack of chemistry, the actress revealed how she didn’t even want to star alongside Baldwin.
Considering William Baldwin a “boy”, Sharon Stone complained about his involvement in the movie. Instead of the younger Baldwin brother, the actress actually wanted his more famous and accomplished older brother, Alec Baldwin, to play her mysterious seducer in Sliver.
Sharon Stone’s Controversial Allegations Against William Baldwin
Famously known for appearing in erotic thrillers like 1992’s Basic Instinct, Sharon Stone recently made headlines for her 1993 thriller Sliver. Starring alongside William Baldwin in the movie, Stone sparked controversies for a bitter public feud with the actor. According to reports, Stone recently revealed the alleged pressure she faced while filming the movie.
Appearing for an interview on the latest episode of The Louis Theroux Podcast, Sharon Stone addressed her lack of chemistry with William Baldwin while filming Sliver. The actress implied that the film’s failure was majorly based on this particular issue, which producer Robert Evans tried solving in a bizarre way. Discussing how she was thus pressured by Evans to have s*x with Baldwin to break the ice, Stone sparked controversies.
“[Evans was] running around his office in his sunglasses explaining to me that he slept with Ava Gardner and I should sleep with Billy Baldwin. Because if I slept with Billy Baldwin, Billy Baldwin’s performance would get better. And we needed Billy to get better in the movie because that was the problem. And if I could sleep with Billy, then we would have chemistry on screen, and if I would just have s*x with him, then that would save the movie.”
Sharon Stone had previously touched upon this particular incident in her 2021 memoir The Beauty of Living Twice. Although in her book, Stone left them all unnamed, she finally revealed it during the podcast.
Sharon Stone Fantasized About Alec Baldwin in Sliver
While Sharon Stone’s controversial revelation came recently, her feud with William Baldwin dates back to when she began working with him on Sliver. Having a mutual hatred, the duo often complained about each other, following their onscreen performance. According to screenwriter Joe Eszterhas, who wrote in his book American Rhapsody, via the New York Post, Stone didn’t even want Baldwin as her mysterious seducer in the movie.
“He’s a boy. Give me a man.” Stone begged.
According to reports, Sharon Stone had her eyes on William Baldwin’s elder brother Alec Baldwin, who was more famous and accomplished by the time Sliver was in production. Fantasizing about the Rust actor, Stone reportedly wished for him to play her mysterious seducer in the 1993 erotic thriller about a book editor who was drawn into the world of voyeurism and murder.
“Give me Alec. I’d let Alec throw me over a table anytime.” Stone stated.
By the time Sliver was being produced, Alec Baldwin was gradually transitioning into leading-man roles in different critically acclaimed movies. Earning praise for his string of performances in such hit films as Working Girl, Married to the Mob, and Glengarry Glen Ross, the actor was therefore the one whom Stone wanted.
Sliver is available on Prime Video.
