Samuel L. Jackson has been an integral part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but beyond the superhero brand, the actor has marveled in several astounding roles. The Avengers’ boss also wanted to play a British role.
British television show Peaky Blinders starring Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy has gained global fandom since the release of the first season of the gangster show. It was a mega-hit with six seasons chronicling the saga of Murphy’s Tommy Shelby who leads the Birmingham gang, Peaky Blinders. Jackson said he would love to play a Peaky Blinders character.
Samuel L. Jackson Showed His Interest In Playing A Peaky Blinders Character
Samuel L. Jackson has always been busy and there are several offers on his table but the actor has his own dream role. The Marvel star previously revealed that he has always been keen on playing a role in the popular British series Peaky Blinders. “I want to do some British TV. I’d love to be in Peaky Blinders. That’s a great show,” Jackson told Daily Star.
“I love British humour. I’ve always loved Monty Python, Little Britain, all that stuff. If you ask most Americans about British comedy they’ll go, ‘Ah yeah, Benny Hill’s hilarious’. That’s their definition of British humor.”
The 75-year-old further revealed how he usually spends time in London, “I walk more when I’m here. I was driving the other day and I found myself missing London because I wasn’t as visually stimulated.” Adding on to the London vibe he said, “I’d leave my apartment in London every day, hit the street and see 500 people in a block.” But, “I don’t see 500 people in a month in LA unless I’m counting cars.”
The Pulp Fiction star who also appeared in Ricky Gervais’ British sitcom Extras claimed several headlines after his comment that Brits should not always get roles in films about race relations in the US. However, as a Peaky Blinders movie is rumored to be in the works, Jackson might just secure a spot in it.
Peaky Blinders Has Room For Samuel L. Jackson, But What About Cillian Murphy?
Peaky Blinders season 6 did not forcefully conclude Cillian Murphy’s Tommy Shelby rather an open-ended scene left room for the Oppenheimer actor’s potential return. Also, the actor always had a keen relationship with the character and he is open to reprise his role one more time.
“If there is more story to tell, and if Stephen Knight delivers a script like I know he can, then I will be there. I mean, if we want to watch 50-year-old Tommy Shelby, I will be there. Let’s do it,” Murphy said (via Screen Rant).
The creator of the show, Steven Knight previously confirmed a movie based on the series’ conclusion while revealing the shooting of the movie will start in mid-2024. Great but where does Jackson fit in? Peaky Blinders grabbed the attention of fans in December 2023 as it was revealed that Netflix is akin to creating two separate spin-offs orbiting the gang, one of which will potentially follow the US-based setting revolving around the American operations of the gang. He doesn’t have to flex British words forcefully.
If the Netflix project of the Peaky Blinders sequel has any chance of going into production, Jackson could be a fine inclusion of the show and he might just hit it off. Peaky Blinders is available to stream on Netflix.
