Rejected Marvel Actor Targeted for Upcoming Peaky Blinders Movie
Many might not know that Tom Holland actually auditioned for a role in Peaky Blinders before his rise to superhero fame. During an interview with LADBible, the 27-year-old shared that he had lost a role in Cillian Murphy starrer BBC show. He said, “I actually auditioned for Peaky Blinders, and I did not get the part.”
He never revealed the specific part, but the show’s creator, Steven Knight, believes it was significant. While attending the series’ season 6 premiere, the creator said, “It must have been quite a big role he was auditioning for.” Knight further added:
“If he wants to come back for the film, we’ll have him. Time to don your cap and practise your Brummie accent Tom!”
Harry Kirton, who plays Finn Shelby on the show, told Digital Spy that the Marvel star could be a good fit for Michael Gray’s role:
“Him being, obviously, a hugely successful actor and a solid actor at that, he must have gone up for a main role. I don’t know how long ago he went to audition. It could have been a recent thing, so he could have come on as a villain or something.”
Holland could definitely bring a fresh vibe to the Peaky Blinders world. His youthful energy and acting skills might fit well with the gritty setting of the show.
What do we Know About the Peaky Blinders Movie so Far?
The wait for the Peaky Blinders movie is nearly over! After teasing fans for a while, creator Steven Knight confirmed filming is set to begin in “mid-2024.”
This means the script is likely complete or close to it. While there’s no exact date yet, it looks like things are moving forward and we can expect to see the Peaky Blinders back in action soon.
Adding to the excitement, Knight revealed (via Radio Times) the movie will explore “a sort of untold story that happened in the Second World War, which Peakys are going to be involved in.”
And what about Tommy Shelby, the show’s morally conflicted leader? Knight has always envisioned a path to redemption for Tommy, where he sheds his “big bad” image (via Metro). Season 6 hinted at this with themes of guilt, and the movie seems poised to take it further.
