Pedro Pascal-starrer Disney+ show The Mandalorian received wide applause from fans and critics and had a three-season run. Following the flagship show’s third and ahead of its fourth season, Disney and Lucasfilm announced a feature film, The Mandalorian & Grogu.
The recent report on the movie, however, does not adhere to the excitement and hype among fans as Disney was keen on restricting the budget of the film, keeping it surprisingly low. Fans are devastated by the report worrying about the VFX and overall justice to the cinematic journey of the two iconic characters.
Disney Is Keeping the Mandalorian & Grogu Budget Surprisingly Low
Disney-owned superhero brand Marvel Studios keeps its budget high. Despite the paramount risk, the studio has always been ready to gamble with fate, and so far, Marvel Studios is doing good with its slates. The studio’s parent company and distributor, Disney, has been considering a different approach starting with the upcoming Pedro Pascal movie Mandalorian & Grogu.
As per a recent report from Bespin Bulletin, Mandalorian & Grogu will have a significant budget restriction as the studio has limited the budget of the film to a $120M budget. The total budget of the film is lower than the season one spending in the series.
The Mandalorian creator and showrunner, Jon Favreau, is set to helm the upcoming project. Significantly, Mandalorian & Grogu is set to be the first Star Wars feature since 2019. The previous Star Wars movie, The Rise of Skywalker, had a production budget of $416 million, being the third most expensive film ever made. So, evidently, Disney is not going there again.
Fans Are Rattled By The Production Budget of Mandalorian & Grogu
Fans are rattled by the limited budget of the forthcoming film. The fear among fans is somewhat justified as the budget might have a huge impact on the visual effects. Of course, the VFX of the series has its prowess and deserves celebration, kudos to Favreau’s immaculate vision, but was strictly for the small screen and if Disney limits the budget of the film, it might not be up to the mark as fans expect on the big screen.
If it affects the VFX, they'll regret it.

Season 1 & 2 were the best seasons in the 📺 series. I really hope they do this film justice. #TheMandalorian #DinGrogu #ThisIsTheWay https://t.co/VfFOVQcUU3

I just hope it looks better than the TV show! Don't get me wrong, the show looks great… for a TV show. I just hope this has the look and feel of a big screen blockbuster is all I'm saying!

Regardless, Lucasfilm Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni has a positive approach to the film. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, he revealed that the movie “is gonna be great.” He also praised Favreau for his understanding and study of the mythos of Star Wars and the character declaring the upcoming movie is in good hands.
The Mandalorian & Grogu is scheduled for a December 18, 2026 release.
