Ever since the announcement of the development of The Mandalorian & Grogu film, the fate of the fourth season of Disney+’s The Mandalorian starring Pedro Pascal has been at risk. As of now, there has not been any confirmation if the series’ sequel will push through.

Despite director Jon Favreau confirming that he has already finished writing the script for Season 4, no plot details or release date has been shared. It seems that the focus of the studio right now is aimed at the movie.

Dave Filoni Could Not Confirm The Mandalorian Season 4

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Lucasfilm’s Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni responded to the speculation that there won’t be Season 4 because of The Mandalorian & Grogu film:

There’s so much spinning in the galaxy right now. You know me better than to commit to any one thing. No mind trick works on me.”

He expressed his excitement about the opportunity to collaborate with Jon Favreau in the upcoming movie. He praised the director for his vast knowledge of the Star Wars lore, though he did not provide any update on the series in question:

I think I’m excited about what we’re doing right now with the movie. I think it’s going to be great, obviously with Jon at the helm. It’s going to be fantastic, and he’s so well-studied in Star Wars now, so he’s got a great shorthand, and I love collaborating with him, so just excited to share the future of what we’re doing.”

The only hope that fans can hold on to at this point is Favreau’s assurance that he has already finished the script. He told BFMTV:

Season 4? Yeah, I’ve written it already. We have to know where we’re going to tell a fully-formed story, so we had mapped it out, Dave and I, and then slowly you just write each episode. So I was writing it during post-production [on The Mandalorian Season 3] because all of it has to feel like a continuation, one full story.”

With The Mandalorian & Grogu expected to begin filming this year for a potential late 2025 release, it is highly possible that the fourth season of the Disney+ show will take the backseat for now.

In a more depressing story, a newsletter from The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the chance of getting a Season 4 is now vague. The film version, of course, has to become successful, and when it happens, it would warrant another theatrical entry.

What happens to season four now is unclear. It’s definitely not a given. If the movie is a success, it could lead to next phase of Mando storytelling becoming movie sequels. Box office and fan reaction would determine that.”

The fourth season of The Mandalorian might be hanging by a thread right now, and only time will tell if the creative team behind the famed series will continue to push through with the follow-up or leave it altogether.
