Before the release of the One Piece Live-Action series, the fans of the industry were not really in favor of the live-action adaptation side of famous anime and manga series. This is due to the fact that past attempts to do so have resulted in failures nearly every time, disrespecting the source material at the same time.
One of the more recent examples of these failures is the Cowboy Bebop live-action adaptation, which came out back in 2021 and with a rating of 6.7 on IMDb, the series was unsatisfactory, to say the least. However, it turns out the producers of this particular series are the same as those of the One Piece Live-Action series, and they shared via Deadline what went wrong with Cowboy Bebop.
One Piece Live-Action Producers Share What Went Wrong With Cowboy Bebop Live-Action
The Cowboy Bebop Live-Action series by Netflix that came out back in 2021 was canceled just after 3 weeks of airing on the platform, and producers of the studio Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements revealed where they went wrong.
The producers unveiled how sticking to the source material is important in an adaptation in order to make a live-action series work. Adelstein said “And if you’re lucky you get one like this that resonates so large, and there’s such awareness of and people have a love of the source material“
This essentially focused on the fact that sticking to the source material allows the audience and the watcher to relate to what they are expecting of the series and what they are going to watch ahead. This is something that was pulled off in the recent One Piece Live-Action series.
Reasons Behind The Major Success Of One Piece Live-Action Series
There is no single reason behind the major success of the recent Netflix series, there are many factors that were involved in making a series a fan favorite and something that the audience will remember for years to come.
These factors include how the producers decided to stick around to the source material itself instead of wandering off into the wilderness of storytelling while using the characters of a popular series. It is also notable how the production was looked over by none other than Eiichiro Oda himself, the creator of the whole One Piece franchise.
Something else that is worth noting is the fact that the cast this time around was themselves fond of the series, with many watching them in their childhood, growing up with it, causing them to be motivated to give their best performance in this given opportunity.
