Larry David can be widely considered the king of humor in American television. Along with Jerry Seinfeld, the writer and producer created the pioneering sitcom Seinfeld which broke all records and set the benchmark for the genre to evolve. David followed up this success with the HBO series Curb Your Enthusiasm in which he starred as a fictionalized version of himself.
Over the years, the comedic writer has also lived up to his witty persona especially when pulling various celebrities’ legs with his infamous imitations in Saturday Night Live. Recently in an appearance on the Late Show with Seth Meyers, David rendered a few choice insults to his host while also shooting himself in the foot. He also addressed his run-in with the beloved Elmo on The Today Show that seems to have created quite a stir.
Larry David Was Cornered By Seth Meyers
There’s never a dull moment when popular American producer Larry David sits down for a chat. The writer who created iconic shows like Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm, has kept fans in splits with his razor-sharp wit and uncanny impressions during his Saturday Night Live appearances.
David who was recently a guest on Late Night with Seth Meyers, hilariously rendered an insult to the host. Meyers reminded the Seinfeld creator that he had offered him a role in Curb Your Enthusiasm after being impressed with his acting performance in a comedic sketch. David reacted to this piece of information in a confused manner before dashing Meyers’ ego with one classic line.
“I’m a pathological liar.”
Encouraged by the laughs in the crowd, David went one step further and confessed that he did not view Meyers as an actor as his work thus far did not showcase his skills in that department. This then led to the host hurriedly changing the topic to save face.
When Larry David Confronted The Beloved Elmo
In the morning of his scheduled appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Larry David was in the news again, this time for his face-off with none other than Sesame Street’s icon, Elmo. The Muppet who preceded the writer as guest in The Today Show, was in for a shock when David gate crashed onto the set and began to rough him up while the hosts incredulously watched on. The creator ultimately went on to apologize to Elmo who graciously accepted it.
While the chaos that ensued looked very much like a staged gag especially considering David’s penchant for creating hilarious sketches during his appearances, the writer did appear to have received some flak for his actions. The comedy mogul was also a hot talking point in The View when hosts Joy Behar and Alyssa Farrah Griffin indulged in a heated debate about the incident.
While Behar believed that there was no cause for over-reacting to David’s face-off with a puppet, Griffin disagreed vociferously and blamed comedian for reducing Elmo to an inanimate object and disrespecting the character’s values and life lessons which has touched a universal chord with families.
“I grew up in a house where you would eat your cereal and you’d watch GMA or Sesame Street before you went to school and I’m sorry we all just trauma dumped on Elmo this week.”
David meanwhile seemed to add more fuel to the fire when he discussed this incident with Seth Meyers where he seemingly seemed to retract his apology by saying that he would react the same way if the incident occurred again. Whether the whole thing was completely planned in jest or not, will never be fully confirmed. But the fact remains that Larry David knows how to cause a flutter intentionally or unintentionally.
