The God of Mischief will return to our screens early in October, with Tom Hiddleston all set to reprise the role of Loki in the second installment of the Disney+ series of the same name.
Six episodes long Season 1, which follows Loki-on-the-run’s trial by the Time Variance Authority after the events of Avengers: Endgame, received plenty of plaudits for giving a deeper insight into one of the MCU’s most enigmatic characters that has been dividing opinions with his exploits and personality (different variants) ever since being introduced in Thor (2011).
In particular, fans really liked Loki’s face-off with a female variant of himself Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino). But a deleted scene from season 1 involving the pair has emerged, and it’s so awkward that fans are happy they didn’t get to see it during the show.
Fans Are Delighted Marvel Deleted an Awkward Tom Hiddleston Scene From Loki Season 1
As Time Variance Authority forces Tom Hiddleston‘s Loki, who stole the Tesseract, to catch a dangerous variant version of himself, Sylvie, the audience is taken through a six-episode long ride that sees them learn about the Sacred Timeline, the TVA, and He Who Remains.
But apart from these major themes, the highlight of the show was Hiddleston and Sophia Di Martino‘s chemistry, which introduces fans to the vulnerable side of the mischievous character. What started as a game of cat and mouse, as Loki tries to get a hold of Sylvie, blossoms into something more meaningful.
By the time we reach Episode 4, the relationship between the pair is much deeper, but a scene involving Loki, Sylvie, and TVA agent Mobius threatens to go against the characters’ growth fans witnessed up until that moment.
IGN shared the clip that shows Loki holding Sylvie hostage during a standoff with TVA. He held a knife to her throat, and seconds later, she bit his forearm to get away from him and attack TVA’s agents – indicating a clear lack of trust and solid bond between the two. This development would’ve puzzled fans after what they saw previously. Thankfully, the Kate Herron-directed series didn’t include that scene in the final cut.
Fans in the comment section of the YouTube video made sure to express their delight at the decision that saved Loki from getting ruined. Specifically, they highlighted that the look Loki and Sylvie shared while being taken to different interrogation rooms would’ve not made sense with the deleted sequence.
A Look at the Relationship Between Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and Sylvie Ahead of Season 2
The deleted scene did help to clear out any mixed signals from the show writers concerning the developing chemistry between Loki and Sylvie. However, everything was thrown into chaos in the series finale, For All Time, Always.
They kiss each other in the final episode but they disagree over what to do with the mastermind behind TVA, He Who Remains. Sylvie decides to stab Jonathan Majors’ character, creating numerous branching timelines and potentially unleashing more evil variants. Meanwhile, Loki lands in a different timeline.
Season 2’s trailer shows Loki dealing with the issue of time-slipping, and meeting seemingly weird repair guy OB (Ke Huy Quan) to understand more about his problem. Amid all this, it’ll be interesting to see how he reacts to reuniting with Sylvie.
