Ever since Marvel star Trevor Noah left The Daily Show in December 2022, there has been no permanent host on the show. Stars including Sarah Silverman, John Leguizamo, Kal Pen, Leslie Jones, Al Franken, Hasan Minhaj, Charlamagne Tha God, Michelle Wolf, Desus Nice, Lewis Black, and Ronny Chieng took over the late-night show desk as guest hosts in Trevor’s absence.

Since its debut on July 22, 1996, the show has been hosted by various stars, including Craig Kilborn (the original host), Jon Stewart (1999–2015), and of course our very own Trevor Noah from 2015 to 2022. And now, the show makers are looking to find a permanent replacement for the same. A former colleague of Noah, Hasan Minhaj, is reportedly among the leading candidates to take over The Daily Show as host.

The producers haven’t settled on a replacement for Noah yet, although American comedian Hasan Minhaj, who is of Indian descent, has been in the lead. Minhaj previously worked as the senior correspondent for The Daily Show from 2014 to 2018.

He got his first chance to work on the show when Jon Stewart was the host. After that, Noah and Minhaj worked together on The Daily Show for four years. Minhaj, who was known for his sharp wit and efficiency in tackling complex issues humorously, left the show in 2018 to become the host of his own talk show, Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj.

Moreover, Hasan Minhaj took over as the show’s guest host after Trevor Noah abruptly left it, and the audience enjoyed him in that role. So, he is seen as the front-runner to host the show considering his prior stint with it and his popularity.

However, Comedy Central has not finalized anything yet. So, fans are eagerly waiting for the official announcement.

Everyone on the team, including Jen Flanz, Zhubin Parang, and Dan Amira, has watched him develop over the years, making it an honor for him to perform alongside them. While talking to TheWrap during an interview, he said, “The Daily Show really was my comedy undergrad”.

It’s worth mentioning that when Noah left The Daily Show, several of his former coworkers, including Minhaj, applauded him. The two-time Peabody Award-winning comedian congratulated Noah and wished him luck for his future in a social media post. He said, “7 amazing years. You did it your way, and you made @thedailyshow your own”. Minhaj wrote a funny ending to his post and thanked Noah for not firing him from the show.

The Daily Show airs weeknights at 11 p.m. et/pt on Comedy Central.
