Sydney Sweeney Address The MAGA Hat Controversy

Back in 2020, Sydney Sweeney found herself surrounded by controversy when her Mom’s 60th birthday bash turned into a political affair. In photos shared by the actress on her Instagram, the guests in the party were seen wearing hats resembling Donald Trump’s Make America Great Again hats as well as T-Shirts that were similar to Blue Lives Matter t-shirts. This led to a lot of fan backlash, and even though the actress tried to clear the misunderstandings, things did not seem to get better.

Her brother, Trent Sweeney, later clarified that the MAGA-style red caps worn by the guests read, “Make Sixty Great Again,” and was meant to be fun. In her recent SNL monologue, the actress addressed the controversy, saying,

“I’m from a town called Spokane, right on the border of Washington and Idaho, feeling a bond to both states,” further adding, “like when people ask where are you from, I say Washington. But when people ask did you go to a Trump-themed party for your mom, I say, Idaho.”

Trying to stay away from the controversy, the actress previously tried to make no comments on the matter when things seemed to be getting out of hand no matter what she said. So it was a surprise when she addressed the issue during her debut in SNL.

Sydney Sweeney Rebuffed Glen Powell Affair Rumors

Sydney Sweeney made quite the splash with her last rom-com, Anyone But You, opposite Glen Powell. Their electrifying chemistry on and off-screen made way for many rumors about an on-set affair. Things took a turn when news of Powell breaking up with his long-time girlfriend, Gigi Paris, reached the media.
The actor was still shooting the movie in Australia at that time, and the news did not make things easy on him or his co-star.

During the monologue, Sweeney made sure to address the affair rumors, saying;

“I’d say the craziest rumor I’ve seen is that while I was filming Anyone But You, I was having an affair with my co-star Glen Powell. That’s obviously not true. Me and my fiancé [Jonathan Davino] produced the movie together, and he was there the entire shoot. And I just want to let everyone know that he’s the man of my dreams and we’re still together and stronger than ever. He even came here tonight to support me. Can we cut to him?”

You can watch Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell sizzling the screen in Anyone But You, available on Apple TV.
