It’s been quite a long time since we saw Daniel Brühl in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Spanish-German actor, who entered the MCU as criminal mastermind Baron Zemo in Captain America: Civil War, hasn’t been seen in the franchise since his appearance in the television series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier in 2021.

Despite his vicious plan of framing the Winter Soldier for killing T’Chaka, which eventually led to the Avengers Civil War, the villain remains one of the most adored characters in the franchise due to his charismatic personality and of course, the hilarious dancing. Much to the disappointment of his fans, it seems they are unlikely to see Zemo on their screens anytime soon.

What Daniel Brühl Said About Potentially Returning to MCU

Brühl is also open to returning as Zemo, but as things stand, he has no idea what Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has in store for him. Instead, the 45-year-old is focused on HBO drama The Franchise, a comedy about superhero movie-making. Speaking to Screen Rant, he said:

“… So if the right opportunity would come, I wouldn’t say no, obviously. But for now, I’m into other things that I’m very happy with because that might have collided.”

The actor enjoyed exploring the sense of humor in Zemo during The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and is now hoping Marvel and Feige would like The Franchise’s comical approach.

Helmut Zemo was responsible for forming the Thunderbolts – a group of villains adopting heroic identities – in Marvel Comics. As such, many fans are expecting Brühl to play some part in the upcoming Thunderbolts movie. However, the Rush star suggested he is not in it, adding he believed Marvel Studios are already shooting it.

What Wyatt Russell Said About Daniel Brühl’s Role in Thunderbolts

Wyatt Russell, who’s all set to star in Thunderbolts as John Walker, was also asked about Brühl potentially reprising his role in the Jake Schreier-directed film, which is scheduled to release in 2025.

Interestingly, Russell seemed much more optimistic about that possibility than Brühl himself.

“Daniel is not going to be it, [but] he could play a part in it,” Russell told The Playlist“I don’t know. I haven’t read a script yet, but as of now, I’m not sure.”

Regardless, fans of Brühl don’t have to wait too long to catch him on the big screen. He is leading Race for Glory: Audi vs. Lancia, the film which sheds light on the 1983 World Rally Championship and the fierce rivalry between Germany (Audi) and Italy (Lancia). The sports thriller will be released in January 2024.
