Hathaway does not think The Devil Wears Prada 2 with her, Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt would happen anytime soon. For the actress, she thinks the time to do a movie like that has already passed.

Anne Hathaway On The Devil Wears Prada Sequel

Speaking with Vanity Fair, actress Anne Hathaway reckons a sequel movie will no longer reflect the media landscape of today. In the 2006 film, print magazines were the central medium as opposed to this generation’s digital consumption.

I’m just realizing this as I talk to you. I haven’t turned to my team and said, ‘Only send me movies that predate the personal computer revolution.’

Indeed, those were the days when people relied on magazines and newspapers for information. Now, everything is discovered, learned, and achieved in a single click. Shockingly, she admitted via the Happy Sad Confused podcast that she had not seen the film in years.

Just so you understand, all of you have seen this movie way more recently than I have. It’s been, if not over a decade, maybe two decades since I’ve seen this movie, so this is, like, amazing.”

When asked about the possibility of a sequel, Hathaway confessed via Variety she does not think a follow-up is necessary, though she would love to work with the same cast members again in other projects.

I’m not sure if could is the right question. Should there be? I’d love to make a movie with all the people again that’s something totally different. But I think that one might have just hit the right note. It’s good to leave it as it is.”

Interestingly, the 41-year-old actress revealed she was the ninth choice for the role of Andy Sachs. This is absolutely an insane fact given how incredible and iconic her performance was in the movie.

The Devil Wears Prada’s Unexpected Cultural Legacy

In the same conversation with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Hathaway shared she never imagined the movie would become a pop culture phenomenon. She was only attracted to the role, but not in a way that it would leave such an impact on people.

Not this, though, not the way it’s sort of woven into the culture and it’s become such a touchstone for so many people. I didn’t realize it was gonna have such a lasting impression, so I didn’t realize it was gonna leave such a legacy.”

She also echoed the same answer when asked about a potential revival of the franchise through a sequel:

Sometimes things should be cherished and preserved in this bubble and it’s okay.”

It’s clear that the actress has no plans to return for another installment, and it’s simply for the reason that it would no longer keep up with the evolving nature of media.
