Iman Vellani’s performance as Kamala Khan, aka Ms Marvel has captivated fans everywhere, and went above and beyond by playing Marvel’s Avengers which could be the most painful and harrowing gaming experience a Marvel fan can endure. The game was a massive disappointment and not just in the eyes of fans but as a game in general, but it did give Vellani something to work with for her live-action portrayal.
Marvel’s Avengers promoted Ms Marvel as a lead and given her more to do than the major heroes like Iron Man, Thor and Captain America who was notably absent from the majority of the campaign to give her moment to shine. From a creative point of view, the game had the demand, support and foundation for it to be a success yet Crystal Dynamics failed to deliver, Iman and fans all over are still grieving over the failure of Marvel’s most popular team of heroes.
Iman Vellani Showed Her Resilience By Enduring Marvel’s Avengers And The Boring Gameplay
Nothing is more upsetting than seeing a project that had a lot of potential to unceremoniously fail and damage the brand, despite not being a massive gamer herself, Iman went out of her way to purchase her copy of Marvel’s Avengers prior to her casting. Her work on her show and in The Marvels made fans love her character more and are keen on seeing more of her in future projects.
At that point, she was just a regular Marvel fan and was excited for anything that involves Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and being not as experienced as other hardcore gamers, her criticisms about the boring moves were valid and justified. Iman did get a kick out of the game for being able to play as herself in a more immersive and combat focused adaptation of Ms Marvel.
Marvel’s Avengers Is A Boring Mess, And Even Ms Marvel Herself Thinks So
The level of anticipation were high for Marvel’s Avengers, but the moment the first teaser dropped, fans already started to tear it to shreds. Criticizing character models and designs even their cosmetics like outfits, it was already doomed right from the start. The gameplay was the only saving grace but it wasn’t enough to save it from being delisted in every platform available.
Some fans consider playing this live-service title as torture, and Iman didn’t falter as she played through the game herself but ultimately got bored from all the moves and repetitive gameplay. The young actress can’t be faulted for that, and this will serve as a lesson for Marvel to avoid the live-service format of gaming in future games.
Despite being a mess, Vellani was able to project herself as Ms Marvel and there is hope for her to reprise the heroine in various adaptations and projects, and maybe another Avengers video game done in earnest.
