The Marvels was the latest entry of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it gave the spotlight to three powerful heroines: Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, and the young up-and-coming hero of New Jersey, Kamala Khan also known as Ms Marvel. The film had a mixed reception, but it served its purpose to show what this trio can bring to the table, and after her solo series on Disney+, Iman Vellani has been a fan favorite.

The character is fairly new, only a decade old but has caught the attention of comic book readers because of her religion, unique power set, and origins. There was a window of opportunity to establish the character in other formats like gaming, and Square Enix with Crystal Dynamics gave the world Marvel’s Avengers.

It was a short-lived and embarrassing adaptation of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes but they managed to pivot the focus on the young heroine.

Iman Vellani Already Played Ms. Marvel In The Worst Avengers Project

Marvel's Avengers was a live-service with the intention of having new content thoughout the years, the only thing the game did right was allowing Iman Vellani to feel the power of Ms Marvel.
Marvel’s Avengers was a live service game and Crystal Dynamic planned to have new content throughout the years.

While not the biggest gamer out there, Iman admitted that she bought a copy of Marvel’s Avengers out of impulse because of her love for the Marvel brand and hadn’t had the role locked at the moment of her purchase. Iman shares the complaints that the community had, it was boring although she didn’t deny that she took the opportunity to play herself.

It was a wonderful training ground of sorts, the barrier between live-action films and video games is not that far apart. Iman had to visualize in her head Ms Marvel’s abilities while they fixed it in post-production, but the game allowed her to live in the moment and feel connected to her character’s powers instantly. Marvel’s Avengers is a fun button-mashing game with mindless violence and repetitive objectives, but it did help Iman’s prep.

The Marvels Is Just The Start For Iman Vellani And Ms Marvel’s Bright Future In The MCU

Both the game and live-action adaptations of Ms. Marvel share the same source material which is the comics, however, in Kevin Feige’s Marvel Cinematic Universe, anything is possible for retcon. The character’s Inhuman roots are heavily present in the game while it was thrown out of the room entirely in her debut series.

Iman Vellani is a fan amongst fans, her knowledge of the character’s history and lore granted her rare privileges like writing comics and more. Her journey mirrors the character, at one point when she bought the video game and posed for a picture in Best Buy, being incognito was no longer an option today because of her popularity.

Marvel’s Avengers may have been a disappointment, but it gave the fans the chance to feel the might and raw power of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes regardless of how repetitive and boring it was and it even helped Iman to better understand what it takes to be Ms. Marvel.
