Thus, David Benioff and DB Weiss, the director duo behind the iconic Game of Thrones series wanted him to make a cameo appearance in their upcoming Netflix project 3 Body Problem which is filled with science fiction and aliens. But Obama declined, claiming that he would be saving himself until an alien invasion happens for real.
Barack Obama Declined The Directors’ Request To Cameo In The Upcoming 3 Body Problem With A Comical Reason
Usually, we never see someone as important as the President of The United States engage in the entertainment industry with the public that they are serving, but former President Barack Obama broke those norms when he was in office and revolutionized the mode of public engagement.
Thus, with such a reputation of being one of the most approachable country leaders, it’s not hard to see why every TV show or film production wants to feature him on their project.
Seeing his popularity and influence as the former President, creator, and director duo of the iconic Game of Thrones series David Benioff and DB Weiss wanted him to make a cameo in their upcoming Netflix sci-fi series 3 Body Problem. Unfortunately, Obama declined the offer, though the reason he gave for it was incredibly funny and silly.
In an interview with USA Today, Benioff said that they were declined by the former leader, and the reason was that if real aliens invade Earth, then he would definitely play his part in real life, saying:
“He did sign a very funny note when we tried to get him for a cameo. It was to the effect of, ‘In case there ever is a real alien invasion, I think I should probably save myself for that crisis.”
Despite this news proving to be a big bummer for everyone who was excited about Obama’s appearance in the series, they might just feel better when the series hits the streaming platform soon.
What Is 3 Body Problem About?
Shifting gears and taking on a new project from the evergreen fantasy genre the duo is known for into sci-fi, Benioff and Wiess are promising something equally exceptional with their upcoming Netflix series 3 Body Problem.
The series is being adapted from Chinese author Liu Cixin’s novel of the same name, which is set to star Eiza González. The story will follow the tale of a learned educator who teaches about the hypothetical Three-Body Problem theory but soon finds themselves trying to make a practical sense of it when aliens invade Earth coming from a solar system that is unstable due to the presence of three suns.
