One Piece features a unique setting, weird and colorful characters, and amazing fight scenes. And bringing that to life in a live-action format was always going to be a huge challenge, especially since Netflix has not had much success with other anime adaptations in the past.

But there are a few reasons why this One Piece live-action has worked so well. First, the creator of the original One Piece manga, Eiichiro Oda, was closely monitoring the making of live-action. But another key factor was the casting of the main Straw Hat crew. The actors who played those characters have been absolutely perfect.

Why Taz Skylar is the Perfect Choice to Play Sanji in the One Piece Live-Action

Taz Skylar has really nailed the role of Sanji in the first season of One Piece live-action. Out of all the Straw Hat crew members, he has put in the most work to get into his character.

Skylar trained for more than 8 hours a day in martial arts, focusing a lot on perfecting his kicks, since that is the signature fighting style of Sanji. Additionally, he also went through culinary training to learn how to cook all the dishes that we have seen in the original series.

He has even shown his cooking skills to other cast members during the promotional videos of season one, by making meals for them.

Skylar has not slowed down one bit. He is still working hard to keep improving his skills, even earning his first black belt in Taekwondo as part of all his training.

In a recent interview at MEFCC Abu Dhabi 2024, Iñaki Godoy, who plays Luffy, said,

“There is no better Sanji in this world. Yesterday we landed in Abu Dhabi, and today, he woke up early, and you know what this guy [Taz Skylar] did? He started to train because he is training kink, all the time. So that when season 2 comes out he can do best in the best.”

So it is clear that Taz Skylar has really gone above and beyond to become the best live-action version of Sanji. His cooking skills, intent training, and dedication to the character have really paid off. It is safe to say that there is no one else who could do the Straw Hats’ chef better justice.
