Insomniac had been hit with a massive leak a couple of months back and the content from the leak is still being uncovered. A game featuring Marvel’s Spider-Man titled Spider-Man: The Great Web came to the fore of late due to its trailer being leaked. The game was never officially announced but was being developed under wraps for quite a while before Sony ultimately scuppered the project.

While no reason behind the scrapping had been revealed, fans might feel quite hard done by the decision. Especially with the leak of the trailer of the multi-player Spider-Man game featuring 5 different iterations of the superhero, the game would have been a good way to tie in Insomniac’s Spider-Man franchise with the MCU.

Marvel’s Spider-Man is one of the most popular superheroes on the planet. So, it is quite natural that a leaked trailer of a scrapped superhero game will cause massive upheaval among fans, especially when there were 5 different webslingers in the game. The leaked trailer promised plenty. And fans are now wondering whether they lost out on something amazing because of Sony’s decision.

The trailer for the multi-player game showed the characters having the time of their lives in New York City battling bad guys and slinging around the city. The game was supposed to have a 5-person lobby with each player controlling one iteration of Marvel’s Spider-Man.

The game revolved around the multi-verse model of the MCU which was split open by Scarlet Witch. This would have tied the game to the movie Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness. That would have led to the possibility of the game being tied to the MCU cannon. In doing so, there would have been a possibility of other superheroes making appearances to fight the bad guys.

Plus Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League shows that multiplayer superhero games can ride the hype train even if they are riddled with problems. This leads to the question of whether Spider-Man: The Great Web would have been a blockbuster like Suicide Squad‘s latest video game iteration.

Fans Left Ruing 5 Different Spideys

The scrapped game had a lot of things to turn the heads of fans. But the most significant aspect was the emulation of 5 different versions of Spider-Man fighting together as a team. This unprecedented team-up in the video game world would have been a major welcome by the fans of both MCU and Insomniac.

However, there is no future possibility of revival for the game. So, fans can expect the leaked trailer to serve as a reminder only of what could have been. The positive reactions to the leaked trailer can illicit some response from the developers and they can take future steps on a project on Marvel’s Spider-Man. But fans will have to wait for an official update to see what the studio thinks of its scrapped project.

The trailer in itself looked fantastic. Although some of the mechanics looked a bit clunky, it was nothing that couldn’t have been ironed out. This leads us again to the same question, what was Sony and Insomniac thinking?

I travel. I game. I write. In no strict order.

The single biggest lie told all around is, "It isn't that simple." It is simple, everything is. And that is what I emulate in my writing. No unnecessary jargons and no flamboyant flourish. Just what's needed to get your imagination going. After all mind has no limit, unlike the written word.
