Towards the end of season one, Omni-Man is revealed as a member of the Viltrumite race from the planet Viltrum, who aims to conquer different worlds. Nolan is tasked with taking down Earth, where he poses as a superhero and slowly begins to take over the planet. Nolan’s son, Mark, inherits some of his Viltrumite powers and becomes a superhero himself, but proves to be powerless against his father. Ultimately, Nolan leaves Earth when he finds himself unable to kill his own son.

Season 2 of Invincible introduces us to the villain Angstrom Levy, voiced by Sterling K. Brown, who collects information from his variants across the multiverse on how to defeat Invincible. In the end-credits scene of Episode 2, Levy appears in an alternate earth where Mark is restrained by the GDA for information. Levy wants to know from this Mark how to defeat Mark from the original dimension.

In their conversation, Mark reveals that on that earth, the GDA ambushed Omni-Man using experimental quantum bombs. Mark further discloses that the quantum bombs not only defeated Nolan but also took out most of Europe. This revelation significantly challenges the invincibility of Omni-Man and sparks major plot developments, with characters now strategizing ways to combat Omni-Man.

Notably, the concept of a quantum bomb is an invention by the show and is not mentioned in the comics. In the comic storyline, Angstrom Levy uses his gathered knowledge to initiate the Invincible War, where he assembles an army of Invincibles to seek revenge on Mark.

What Are Other Weaknesses Of Nolan Grayson In Invincible (Comics)?

Both the series and comics establish Nolan as the indestructible supervillain. However, the comics outline certain weaknesses for Omni-Man and the other Viltrumites. For instance, some sound frequencies can cause pain in their sensitive inner ears, affecting their power of flight. This was depicted in the new episode, where Mark, a half-Viltrumite, gets injured by a kaiju’s roar.

The Viltrumites are also vulnerable to intense heat, especially from the sun or boiling plasma. It can weaken and even potentially kill them. This weakness could also explain the quantum bombs, suggesting they produce enough heat to defeat Nolan Grayson. In the comics, another effective weapon used against Nolan is The Scourge Virus developed by the Coalition of Planets.

However, one of Nolan’s biggest weaknesses as a supervillain is revealed in season one. Despite killing many including the Guardians of the Globe whom he considered friends, Nolan could not bring himself to kill Mark. This hint of humanity in Omni-Man could render him more susceptible to defeat.
