The Invincible comics and series have been drawing a lot of fan flare thanks to their mature and realistic themes. With the first four episodes of its second season already streaming, the series is garnering much praise for its fresh take on the superhero mythos in a world primarily dominated by the likes of Marvel and DC.
However, despite being faced with fierce competition from either of the universes, the Invincible co-showrunner, Simon Racioppa held out hope to have a Batman cameo in the series, despite WB’s recent entanglement with controversies. Batman first crossed paths with Mark in the Invincible comic book back in 2006 in the #33 issue.
Invincible Co-Showrunner Wanted Batman To Make A Cameo Despite WB’s Troubles
It is no secret that Warner Bros. has been facing the worst couple of years of its existence. From being sued for $8 million for faulty Harry Potter merchandise (via TMZ) or facing severe backlash and threats of boycott after shelving finished movies for tax write-offs (via Entertainment Weekly), the studio seems to be slowly crumbling.
Despite all, the co-showrunner of Invincible Simon Racioppa, expressed in an interview with that he would love to have a crossover with DC and even Marvel.
“I’d love to have crossovers with all, with DC, with Marvel, with all these other characters. I mean… in our show you gotta have to wait and see if that’s a thing that can happen or not. I’d love that to happen, you know, is very tricky nowadays, for Marvel they sometimes license their characters to other studios. So crossing over in television is way harder than it is in comic books.”
While the Invincible-DC cameo actually took place in the comics, the possibility of such an event occurring on-screen seems to be difficult for Warner Bros., and DC already have a lot on their plates.
Invincible Had A Batman Cameo In The Comics
Starting in 1992, Invincible has been proving itself a worthy contender to the comic book realms of DC and Marvel. Although not as big or even as popular, it has what the other two comic book powerhouses lack, reality and relatability.
More of a coming-of-age superhero tale, it deals with mature themes of pain, loss, and love instead of having them sitting on the sidelines, only wounding up in the main storyline to add a twist of flair. Despite its unique perspective, the comic verse does not entirely ignore the existence of DC or Marvel.
Back in Invincible #33, the comic featured a bride cameo of Batman when Mark, the protagonist is sent racing against different dimensions by the antagonist Angstrom Levy. During a very brief encounter, he even ends up meeting Batman, although the character is not visible it is apparent that it is the Caped Crusader (via Comic Escape).
While such a crossover taking place seems like a distant dream, fans remain hopeful nonetheless.
Invincible Season 2 is now streaming on Amazon Prime.
