Invincible is one of the most popular TV adaptations based on a comic book by the same name, and there’s no surprise that the gaming community wants a piece of that experience too. Skybound, the studio behind the series, has started a kickstart campaign in hopes of actualizing this vision.
The team has been vocal about envisioning Invincible as a triple-A quality video game, which is true to its source material and gives players the freedom to explore some of their favorite characters from comics and shows.
Skybound Isn’t New to Handing Epic Franchises
The talented minds at Skybound aren’t new to crafting daunting and powerful experiences. In fact, these are the same creators who have managed an IP as strong and popular as The Walking Dead. Given how versatile the franchise has been in the context of different adaptations, it’s likely we’ll see the same with Invincible.
Skybound’s official crowdfunding page highlights quite a few details about the project. Firstly, the studio wishes to make something as spectacular as its source material, so something small and ‘indie-like’ is not what the creators are aiming for.
Secondly, the studio claims that it has raised quite a good amount of money already, and the dream of making a successful game is not too farfetched:
Our bona fide global hit IP, Invincible, is at the center, and we’ve hand-picked our own team, consisting of more than 30 gaming industry veterans to make it happen.
We have successfully raised $18 million from everyday investors and fans via Republic/Seedrs, and we are inviting you to join us once again.
In retrospect, The Walking Dead has many games that aren’t necessarily successful stories, but Invisible is still safe from that kind of reputation. Moreover, this gives Skybound the potential to make the best of its resources.
What Could an Invincible Game Feel Like?
Skybound has experimented with the idea before, thanks to Fortnite, Guarding the Globe (Ubisoft), and Atom Eve. However, a full-fledged Invincible is yet to come, and according to the team, it’s going to be larger than you’d expect.
The company has mentioned the involvement of studios like EA, Activision Blizzard, and AMZ Games, all pioneers of some of the best games in the industry for the last many years. So, it’s likely that we’ll get to experience the life of Mark and others in a world beyond ours.
If you’ve watched the show (or read the comics), you’ll be well aware that stories in Invincible are often more about the personal journeys of heroes, villains, and everyone in between. In fact, the show’s Season 2 left us with more questions than answers, something Season 3 will venture into.
