Saturday Night Live! for years has engaged viewers with its unique script and comical narrative. However, in recent years, its viewership and ratings have dropped (via TV Over Mind), making the show not as funny as before. Even former avid watchers have no interest in the show anymore, nor do they miss the show anymore (via Newsweek).

Its drop in popularity may well be regarded with not-as-hilarious content and hit-and-miss jokes/ skits it has been making for quite some time now. One classic example of this is the recent incident of Jacob Elordi making out with Chloe Fineman on SNL’s first show of 2024.

Starring as an eligible bachelorette Tiffany, Fineman played a game of Crown Your Short King, where she revealed that although she wasn’t really into short guys but felt missing out since she was letting go of some incredible guys. Going around talking with all the ‘short kings’, she is clearly impressed.

But all of this comes to a tragic end when Jacob Elordi as Jackson enters as a last-minute contestant. Standing almost a foot taller than all the ‘short kings’, he swept Tiffany off her feet despite his lack of intellect in comparison to his short contenders.

The two proceed to make out in a very disastrous and obnoxious way as they slowly depart. While the skit exposed the double standards of people like Tiffany, it also exposed the lack of ‘hilarious’ content SNL has and the reason for its decreasing viewership.

After Elordi and Fineman’s makeout session and Elordi’s monologues went viral, fans called out the once-popular American show over its lack of humorous content and cringe skits.

Although there were certain positive comments, seeing all the negative comments, it seems Jacob Elordi should maybe just stick to the realm of acting and leave the hosting part to more capable individuals, at least for a while.

Meanwhile, Saturday Night Live! can be streamed on Peacock.
