For the longest time in the film industry, there has been the monopoly of Marvel Studios in the superhero genre with the MCU. But the introduction of all the pop-culture enthusiasts and superhero entertainment aficionados to Prime Video’s original series The Boys was a script-flipping moment on the long-running narrative in this genre.

The show became an overnight success with the audience, and its popularity spread all around the globe almost instantly, which led to the creation of spin-offs that were equally well-received by the public. But according to the showrunners, the new spin-off series Gen V may just be something more since it has broken the curse of the MCU projects in terms of the standalone nature of their projects.

Writers Claim That The Boys Universe Is Far Simpler Than The MCU

While the rise of the MCU was the most epic development of a cinematic franchise in existence, they had to ensure they could portray the ideal, all-encompassing superhero world through their films and TV series. But then, The Boys arrived on the scene, which opened up the gate of raw and rustic narrative in this space mixed with the brutality of superpowered beings living among us.

This was also one of the reasons why the franchise became an overnight sensation. And now, the writers of the show say that it has even left the gargantuan MCU in the dust, at least, in one aspect.

In a recent interview with EW, writers Eric Kripkie and Michele Fazekas talked about the success that Gen V witnessed, and that the spin-off series will be returning for a second season in the future. Kripke also revealed that the last episode of the season will be a tying point to the beginning of the events of the upcoming The Boys Season 4.

But Fazekas added that despite these shows being connected with each other, they are not dependent on them. She said that you can watch either of these shows and not feel the obligation to watch the other. She said:

“Also, it can’t get too complicated, you should be able to watch Gen V and not watch The Boys. You can watch The Boys and not watch Gen V. But [the shows] talking to each other and being consistent is always important.”

Thus, while the fans feel like there is so much to watch to get any sense of context with Marvel Studios projects on both the small and big screens,  The Boys universe has that standalone feature baked into its core from the start, which makes it much more enjoyable and less stressing.
