The giant monster franchise Godzilla which is by default considered the biggest sci-fi and horror film series has turned into the longest-running franchise in the history of cinema. Following their success, production company Toho continued releasing reboots, marking Godzilla Minus One as their latest iteration.
The Japanese-language live-action movie has turned into a sensation ever since it made headlines. Further, after hitting the theatres domestically in November 2023 and then internationally in December 2023, the film lived up to people’s expectations. Now Godzilla Minus One is set to become one of the top-grossing live-action foreign-language films.
Godzilla Minus One Eyes $100M Milestone
The latest reboot Godzilla Minus One has already become one of 2023’s greatest films, following its global release. Catering to the biggest sci-fi and horror franchise of all time, Takashi Yamazaki’s film has now turned into a global sensation. Knocking down massive hurdles on its way to box office success, the film breached the $50M mark at the North American box office.
Initially, the movie was released domestically in November 2023, and later on, it made its way to global theatres in December 2023. Ever since then, Godzilla Minus One has seen immense growth, success, and record-breaking performance at the global box office. It is now aiming to become one of the top-grossing live-action foreign-language films, as per Collider.
Critically adored with a 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes, Godzilla Minus One is now approaching steadily towards the $100M milestone. Amid such staggering growth, the production company also announced its plans to release a black-and-white version in Japan. It is believed that any additional expansion of the re-release could boost the film to gain the momentum that’s needed to finally reach the $100M mark.
Fans Demand for More, After the Film’s Success
Considering this amazing news about the Kaiju film’s success, fans are now hoping for more. Further, realizing that Godzilla Minus One has already overtaken 2019’s Parasite’s domestic box office collection which was boosted by its Oscar nominations, netizens are now demanding for the impossible to happen.
Made with a mere $15M budget, as Godzilla Minus One bagged $41M from overseas territories following its international release in December, making a cumulative global haul of $90M, fans started believing that it deserves more. Earning close to $100M within two months is certainly a big deal for a foreign language film, but hoping for it to cross the impossible milestone of a billion dollars is a little too much.
