Actor Ryan Gosling has climbed new heights of success with his work in Barbie, which earned him an Academy Award nomination. Gosling is currently busy promoting his next feature film, the action comedy The Fall Guy. While promoting his new film, Gosling was asked about his past projects, particularly if he wanted another go at any one of them.
In an interview, Gosling revealed that he made a mistake in La La Land, which made him want a do-over for the film. Moreover, Gosling’s mistake ended up being in the Academy Award-winning film’s poster, which continues to haunt the actor even today. Here is what Ryan Gosling did wrong in La La Land and why it haunts him.
Ryan Gosling Says He Wants a Do-Over For His La La Land Role
Ryan Gosling is currently starring in The Fall Guy, an action comedy film based on the 1980s television series of the same name. While promoting the film, Gosling sat down for a conversation with WSJ Magazine, where the Academy Award-nominated actor spoke about various phases in his career.
When Gosling was asked if he would like to redo any of his previous roles, the actor quickly named his 2016 musical comedy film La La Land. Gosling explained that he was unhappy with the curve of his hand in one of the film’s dance numbers, which ended up on the film’s poster.
“I didn’t know this would become the poster for the movie, but I thought we were supposed to have our hands up and I thought it’d be cool to put my hand like that. Even though everyone told me it wasn’t cool.”
Gosling made the above statement about his awkward hand gesture in the poster for the film. The actor noted that while he was convinced his hand looked cool, looking at the poster numerous times made him realize that the posture did not look right. He added:
“It just killed the energy that way.”
As a result, it is evident that Gosling has been scarred and haunted by his posture in the still that features on the poster for La La Land. Therefore, the actor, who won his first Golden Globe award for his role in the film, wanted a do-over for La La Land.
Ryan Gosling Praises the Stunts Team in His New Movie, The Fall Guy
During the same interview, Gosling also touched upon his role in The Fall Guy, where he plays a stunt performer named Colt Seavers. Gosling revealed that he performed several of his stunts in the movie himself. However, the one he found the most challenging was the film’s opening scene where he is dropped from a building.
“I thought I would conquer the fear of heights. I did not conquer it.”
Gosling made the above statement revealing how he felt after performing the stunt. However, the actor also praised the stunt coordinators and rigging team for the film, crediting them with successfully executing the scene despite his fear of heights.
Aside from Gosling, The Fall Guy also stars Emily Blunt, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Hannah Waddingham, and Winston Duke. It premiered at the SXSW Film Festival in March 2024.
The film was theatrically released on May 3, 2024, in the United States. You can catch The Fall Guy at a theater near you.
