It’s interesting that she often portrays writers in her roles. And it’s the case with these two projects, too. She starred as an overwhelmed journalist who sees ghosts in the ABC sitcom Not Dead Yet, which is back for its second season on 7th February. The actress also took on the role of a New York sports writer in Players.

After finishing Jane the Virgin in 2019, Rodriguez decided to collaborate with Not Yet Dead creators David Windsor and Casey Johnson. The Chicago native, who also executive-produces Not Yet Dead, said of the series on NBC News:

“When I got the script, it made me laugh and cry; it made me think about how flawed I am and how much growth I need to keep working on, and how you’re constantly evolving and shedding. I just found that to be really relatable.”

Based on Alexandra Potter’s book Confessions of a Forty-Something F**k Up, the comedy series tells the story of Penelope “Nell” Serrano (played by Rodriguez), a 37-year-old who calls herself a disaster.

Gina Rodriguez stars as Mack in Players, a Netflix romantic comedy where she portrays a New York sportswriter—aiming to make a casual fling into something more with Adam (Damon Wayans Jr.). But what stands out is she’s once again taking on the role of a writer in this project.

Directed by Trish Sie, Players is a classic romantic comedy that clinches its genre’s traditions. It focuses on the basics: charming main characters with chemistry, some love triangle drama, a group of funny friends, and a heartwarming story with a message.
