FromSoftware is at the top of its game nowadays; everywhere you go, there’s someone talking about them. It makes sense too; the developer has worked from nothing to what it has become today. It’s a real Rags to Riches story; they have gone from making obscure Mech combat games and super-hard medieval fantasy games to Elden Ring. And it does not look like they have any intention to stop.

There’s much that FromSoftware has achieved since 2009, when they launched their first soulslike Demon Souls. They have given the world a whole new genre, and they have also pushed it to the limits by combining that genre with an open-world formula. But some of its fans are stuck on one game to this date, a game that even director Hidetaka Miyazaki fails to forget.

Whenever a new console is launched, the console manufacturer looks for a title that some describe as a console seller. These are the games that attract people to buy that particular console. Every console seller has a must-have game in mind when they are ready to launch their console. From Nintendo to Microsoft, it’s the same story all over.

When Sony launched the PlayStation 4, their obvious console sellers were The Order 1886, Uncharted 4, and undoubtedly FromSoftware’s new horror-looking game. They revealed it under the working title “Project Beast.” Fans must not forget that Bloodborne was not made by FromSoftware alone; it was made in association with Sony’s Japan Studio. The studio has now been closed, but one of its most masterful creations remains.

The game eventually launched, and many gamers purchased the PlayStation 4 consoles specifically for that game. By early 2022, the game had reportedly sold 7.5 million copies, effectively becoming a success for all three parties involved.

Besides financial success, the game even got very glaring reviews from critics all over. If one asks FromSoftware’s fans today, many of them would still call Bloodborne their favorite game ever. This is the popularity this soulslike horror game set in a Victorian-era-inspired city enjoys.

And then, years after the launch of Bloodborne, something weird and unusual happened: Sony announced the PlayStation 5, and along with that game, they also announced the remake of Demon Souls. It was developed by Bluepoint, and it was an incredible feat of technology. To this day, it’s one of the best-looking games on the PlayStation 5.

This gave fans hope that maybe they would also see a remake of Bloodborne. Ever since then, rumors and supposed leaks of this remake or remaster have been surfacing, and none of them have received any confirmation from Sony, FromSoftware, or even Bluepoint.

But recently, in an interview, director Hidetaka Miyazaki opened up about Bloodborne and its possible remake or even sequel. His response was pretty nostalgic and heartfelt.

“Put simply, it makes me very happy to see it’s a title with a lot of specific memories, both for me and the staff who worked on it, and when we see those passionate voices in the community, of course it makes us feel thrilled, it makes us feel very fortunate to have that and to have those memories.”

As one might notice, he neither confirmed nor denied the existence of a remake or a sequel to Bloodborne. This means that even if either of those titles is in work, fans would have to wait a while before any confirmation comes around. Maybe it would launch for the PS6?

Bluepoint is still the best contender for a Bloodborne Remake

While no one knows what the future might bring to fans of Bloodborne, one thing is for sure: Bluepoint is the best developer to handle a remake. A sequel would no doubt be up FromSoftware’s alley, but Bluepoint knows how to bring older games to a new generation.

They did such an incredible job with Demon Souls that it still stands tall as a showcase of the PlayStation 5’s graphical capabilities. It would be exciting to see Bloodborne in a similar avatar.
