As one half of a creative storytelling team, Joe Russo recently made an appearance at the Sands International Film Festival in St. Andrews, Scotland, to speak about the dominance of Artificial Intelligence that has influenced original writing in films. Russo, in an in-depth discussion, surprised viewers with his take on AI and its effect on narratives.

Joe Russo Supports The Advent Of Artificial Intelligence

Speaking at the Sands International Film Festival, Joe Russo, along with Epic Games head Donald Mustard discussed in length about the future of gaming and entertainment. Talking of the influence of Artificial Intelligence that is slowly but surely changing the future of storytelling in films, Russo said,

“So there’s a real possibility now for technology to become a really important factor in our lives because it’s been embraced by Gen Z, and they grew up with it, they understand it, they know how to use it. That’s important, right? So potentially, what you could do with it is use it to engineer storytelling and change storytelling”.

Despite the criticisms that AI has been detrimental to human creativity and innovation by replacing specialists for the job, Russo was of the opinion that it would benefit viewers with its ability to curate content specific to their taste, thereby giving viewers exactly what they are looking for.

Addressing the concerns of many viewers in the audience who were apprehensive about the unprecedented dominance of technology, Joe Russo said,

“Certainly in the nascent stages, yeah, that is a critical issue. I’m on the board of a few AI companies, I’m gonna speak from my experience of being on the board of those companies is that, there are AI companies that are developing AI to protect you from AI.”

Russo also added that while AI may not be welcomed by many, the fast-changing world and technological advancements made it imperative that everyone at some point will be forced to embrace it for the functioning of their lives.
