While he has starred along with numerous A-Listers, one of his lesser-known collaborations is Grudge Match, starring Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro. Even though Bernthal truly admired Stallone growing up, he recently revealed in his podcast how it was the most disastrous movie he has ever starred in, literally and figuratively.

Jon Bernthal recently welcomed the SNL star Pete Davidson to his popular podcast Real Ones with Jon Bernthal. While the two talked about anything and everything, the topic of Sylvester Stallone came up, with both acknowledging how they grew up loving the Rocky star.

“I had the the same thing with Stallone. I loved the sh*t out of him.”

However, things for Bernthal totally changed when he got the chance to star alongside Stallone in one of Stallone’s most disastrous movies, Grudge Match.

“We ended up doing a movie together and it was like cataclysmic, it was like a complete f**king disaster with him.”

It was a particularly hard time for The Punisher star, not just because of the movie and filming but also because his second son was just born premature and in the NICU while he was busy with Grudge Match.

“My second son had just been born and it was a boxing movie. He was fighting [Robert] De Niro and I played De Niro’s son.”

After a costume fitting, The Walking Dead star went back to LA to welcome his son home after spending almost 2 months in the hospital. However, just when he had landed, he was called back for a ‘boxing rehearsal’, which turned out to be just another disaster for Bernthal during the shoot of the box office failed and critically panned film.

Jon Bernthal regretfully missed his son’s homecoming and had to fly straight back to New Orleans for a ‘boxing rehearsal’, which turned out to be a hoax for it was just Stallone and Robert De Niro who were supposed to be ‘rehearsing’.

In the gym where apparently every inch was covered with posters of the Rambo star, Bernthal was invited by a stunt coordinator to spar while Stallone went on to rest. However, while he was in the ring, a woman got into his gear and took away his Thai boxing liniment, which Stallone wanted.

Despite the Daredevil star protesting and stating that it was hard to get, the lotion was gone as he revealed during his podcast.

“I like ran out and chased him on the street and I’m like, ‘Hey Sly, man, like where I’m from if you want to borrow something from someone you like ask them yourself you know what I mean?’… He’s like ‘Yo, I let you box in my gym,’… And dude he was like, ‘F**k it, I’ll give it back.’ And I was like ‘No keep the f**king liniment,’ you know what I mean ‘but like show me some f**king respect man!’ It was like so bad bro.”

While Jon Bernthal later added how the two resolved their differences as the shooting progressed, fans applauded the actor for standing up against an actor of Stallone’s stature.
