The Fallout video game series is one of Bethesda’s most popular series of post-apocalyptic role-playing video games. The fourth installment in the main series, Fallout 4, is already cited as a great game by many critics as well as gamers. However, now, the game is all set to expand with a fan-made total conversion mod called Fallout: London developed by Team Folon.

Fallout: London is like a DLC for the game but it is different from other fan projects primarily because of how big it is. In fact, Fallout: London is so big for Nexus Mods that the creators had to approach GOG Ltd. The project is so well-made that many Fallout fans believed that it was an official announcement from Bethesda. Unfortunately, the project was delayed since Bethesda dropped a next-gen update for the game in April.

Fallout: London is one of the most highly-anticipated fan-made projects for Fallout 4 but executing this idea was as difficult as creating this project. Due to the massive size of the project, Nexus Mods had to back out and GOG came into the picture. A GOG spokesperson recently told TheGamer about the issues they faced as they cannot market the project as a game,
It’s a super interesting project – For us, it’s a release unlike any other. How do you market [Fallout: London] on the store? It’s a DLC, but it’s not really a DLC. So how do you approach that from the digital platform side?
Even though GOG faced many challenges, they are ready to tackle everything as GOG is dedicated to supporting this project. Fallout: London was initially planned to be released in April 2023 but Bethesda’s major update for the game ruined everything.

Dean Carter, the project lead of Fallout: London, recently told BBC that it was disappointing to him that Bethesda didn’t inform the team that an update was being rolled out. As a result, the update required them to make a lot of changes to the project. He said,
It’s not uncommon for larger game companies like Bethesda to have mixed reactions to fan-made projects of this scale, we saw this with things such as Fallout: The Frontier – They often tolerate projects’ like ours’ existence as long as they don’t infringe on their intellectual property or negatively impact their brand.
Bethesda’s Fallout 4 update not only included graphical and technical changes, but even fresh content as well. This update delayed Fallout: London and as of now, the project doesn’t have a new release date. Unfortunately, console players will not get to experience this as the mod is only coming out on Windows.
